Added Makefile.spec to the list of files to copy to the object directory.
Moved the configuration of $SourceDir to Makefile.config and corrected the
conditional that surrounds it. This allows SPEC to reset it and get the correct
VPATH.

some confusion when trying to generate files (it probably couldn't tell that
./file and $(SourceDir)/file may be the same file).
Now, just let VPATH find everything, and list the primary tblgen file first in
the list of dependencies so that we can just use $< to reference it in the make
rule.
This should hopefully fix the nightly tester.

Labeled .td as a suffix for tblgen files in Makefile.rules.
Modified build rules so that source files generated during the build are placed
in the build directory and not the source directory (and not in a Debug
directory). This makes the system cleaner and allows us to have a read-only
source tree.

We want to check for length 5 because we might get the "llvm." string as the
name. That string is in the LLVM namespace and should be checked as such.
We also don't have to worry about garbage data because (I believe) the string
class will return a valid value. So, the switch statement will work and we
don't have to worry about the code wandering into segfault land.

abort() when we can't open the input filename. The abort() function generates
a core dump if possible and is meant for handling errors so grand that even the
program knows that debugging is necessary.

Moved Makefile.common to Makefile.rules. This makes project Makefiles easier
to support, and allows for easier overriding of default configuration values
that used to be in Makefile.common.
Modified Makefile.config.in to determine paths for directories (like
LLVM_SRC_ROOT) and to use the pwd binary as opposed to the shell builtin (this
works better for symbolic links).

Modified FileExists() so that it uses the access() system call to check for

library code now adds all execute bits that are allowed by the umask value to
the file's current permission bits.

This quickly cancels many of GNU Make's implicit rules and reduces build time.
The only caveat is that any new suffixes may need to be explictly added to

Made the USE_SPEC option work.
Silenced unnecessary error output from the cmp command when checking for
updates to lex/yacc generated files. This fixes a problem where we get error
messages the first time the file is generated.
Fixed the distclean option. It is now in the Makefile (i.e. only runs in the
top level source directory), removes more files, and plays nicely with
external project Makefiles.

The original code does not work because the value from WorkList.end() is
invalidated once WorkList.erase() is called. To ensure proper functionality,
we must ensure that WorkList.erase() is always called before WorkList.end().

Since we are including Makefile.test, we automatically get Makefile.common.
Furthermore, the double inclusion of Makefile.common causes the test suite to
be executed twice per invocation of the top level make.

the inverse of exit status (i.e. 0 means success, non-zero means failure).

Rather, the AC_ARG_ENABLE macro sets the $enableval variable, which then needs

Specifically, this updates libtool to version 1.5 and adds the following:
- Added the -only-static option that we added in our previous libtool.
- Modified the autoconf macros so that libtool uses the -G option when
linking on Solaris. This allows libraries with global variables with
constructors to automatically run those constructors when the
library is dlopened().
