Tim Northover 3614662adb AArch64: use 32-bit MOV rather than UBFX to truncate registers.
It's potentially more efficient on Cyclone, and from the optimization guides &
schedulers looks like it has no effect on Cortex-A53 or A57. In general you'd
expect a MOV to be about the most efficient instruction with its semantics,
even though the official "UXTW" alias is really a UBFX.

No functional change because "lsl #12" is actually encoded as 12, but one less
bug if someone ever decides to change that for the giggles.

Tim Northover c5cc2e1a5a AArch64: make inexact signalling on round Darwin-specific
C11 leaves the choice on whether round-to-integer operations set the inexact
flag implementation-defined. Darwin does expect it to be set, but this seems to
be against the intent of the IEEE document and slower to implement anyway. So
it should be opt-in.

Tim Northover 0e34491fef GVN: tolerate an instruction being replaced without existing in the leaderboard
Sometimes an incidentally created instruction can duplicate a Value used
elsewhere. It then often doesn't end up in the leader table. If it's later
removed, we attempt to remove it from the leader table and segfault.

Instead we should just ignore the removal request, which won't cause any
problems. The reverse situation, where the original instruction is replaced by
the new one (which you might think could leave the leader table empty) cannot
occur, because the incidental instruction will never be found in the first
place.

llvm-rtdyld was relying on the default memory manager's EH frame registration,

Tim Northover 876dd978b8 ARM: recommit r237590: allow jump tables to be placed as constant islands.
The original version didn't properly account for the base register
being modified before the final jump, so caused miscompilations in
Chromium and LLVM. I've fixed this and tested with an LLVM self-host
(I don't have the means to build & test Chromium).

The general idea remains the same: in pathological cases jump tables
can be too far away from the instructions referencing them (like other
constants) so they need to be movable.

Tim Northover 6b57892624 AArch64: work around ld64 bug more aggressively.
ld64 currently mishandles internal pointer relocations (i.e.
ARM64_RELOC_UNSIGNED referred to by section & offset rather than symbol). The
existing __cfstring clause was an early discovery and workaround for this, but
the problem is wider and we should avoid such relocations wherever possible for
now.

This code should be reverted to allowing internal relocations as soon as
possible.

Tim Northover 9962fd0e2e ARM: allow jump tables to be placed as constant islands.
Previously, they were forced to immediately follow the actual branch
instruction. This was usually OK (the LEAs actually accessing them got emitted
nearby, and weren't usually separated much afterwards). Unfortunately, a
sufficiently nasty phi elimination dumps many instructions right before the
basic block terminator, and this can increase the range too much.

This patch frees them up to be placed as usual by the constant islands pass,
and consequently has to slightly modify the form of TBB/TBH tables to refer to
a PC-relative label at the final jump. The other jump table formats were
already position-independent.

We were creating and propagating two separate indices for each jump table (from

Tim Northover edd72727ad ARM: refactor optimizeThumb2JumpTables.
The previous logic mixed 2 separate questions:
  + Can we form a TBB/TBH instruction?
+ Can we remove the jump-table calculation before it?

It then performed a bunch of random tests on the instructions earlier in the
basic block, which were probably sufficient to answer 2 but only because of the
very limited ways in which a t2BR_JT can actually be created.

For example there's no reason to expect the LeaInst to define the same base
register as the following indexing calulation. In practice this means we might
have missed opportunities to form TBB/TBH, in theory you could end up
misidentifying a sequence and removing the wrong LEA:

     %R1 = t2LEApcrelJT ...
     %R2 = t2LEApcrelJT ...
     <... using and killing %R2 ...>
     %R2 = t2ADDr %R1, $Ridx

Before we would have looked for an LEA defining %R2 and found the wrong one. We
just got lucky that jump table setup was (almost?) always confined to a single
basic block and there was only one jump table per block.

Tim Northover 84b8c10729 CodeGen: move over-zealous assert into actual if statement.
It's quite possible to encounter an insertvalue instruction that's more deeply
nested than the value we're looking for, but when that happens we really
mustn't compare beyond the end of the index array.

Since I couldn't see any guarantees about what comparisons std::equal makes, we
probably need to directly check the size beforehand. In practice, I suspect
most std::equal implementations would probably bail early, which would be OK.
But just in case...

When deciding whether a value comes from the aggregate or inserted value of an

Almost all uses are for pattern matching bitfield operations in the backends,

Unfortunately, I couldn't put together a small non-fragile test for this. The

triggered for nodes like "(and N, 0)", which the DAG combiner is usually very
good at folding away before they get to this stage.

Technically "movi vD.2s, #0x80, lsl #24" would work most of the time, but it's

Tim Northover 8af3f965e0 ARM: do not relax Thumb1 -> Thumb2 if only Thumb1 is available.
After recognising that a certain narrow instruction might need a relocation to
be represented, we used to unconditionally relax it to a Thumb2 instruction to
permit this. Unfortunately, some CPUs (e.g. v6m) don't even have most Thumb2
instructions, so we end up emitting a completely invalid instruction.

Theoretically, ELF does have relocations for these situations; but they are
fairly unusable with such short ranges and the ABI document even says they're
documented "for completeness". So an error is probably better there too.

Tim Northover 52f83a9ab3 ARM: simplify and extend byval handling
The main issue being fixed here is that APCS targets handling a "byval align N"
parameter with N > 4 were miscounting what objects were where on the stack,
leading to FrameLowering setting the frame pointer incorrectly and clobbering
the stack.

But byval handling had grown over many years, and had multiple layers of cruft
trying to compensate for each other and calculate padding correctly. This only
really needs to be done once, in the HandleByVal function. Elsewhere should
just do what it's told by that call.

I also stripped out unnecessary APCS/AAPCS distinctions (now that Clang emits
byvals with the correct C ABI alignment), which simplified HandleByVal.

apply the logic to all integer arrays for more consistency.

I mistakenly thought the liveness of each "RetVal(F, i)" depended only on F. It

Live, that counts for the entire object, at the granularity we're considering.

Some parts of DeadArgElim were only considering the individual fields

This one is an actual bug; the mismatch can lead to an argument being
considered used by a return sub-value that isn't being tracked (and
hence is dead by default). It then gets incorrectly eliminated.

Tim Northover c4af8c9467 DeadArgElim: assess uses of entire return value aggregate.
Previously, a non-extractvalue use of an aggregate return value meant
the entire return was considered live (the algorithm gave up
entirely). This was correct, but conservative. It's better to actually
look at that Use, making the analysis results apply to all sub-values
under consideration.

E.g.

  %val = call { i32, i32 } @whatever()
  [...]
  ret { i32, i32 } %val

The return is using the entire aggregate (sub-values 0 and 1). We can
still simplify @whatever if we can prove that this return is itself
unused.

Also unifies the logic slightly between aggregate and non-aggregate
cases..

While various DAG combines try to guarantee that a vector SETCC

Tim Northover 004d725549 AArch64: add backend option to reserve x18 (platform register)
AAPCS64 says that it's up to the platform to specify whether x18 is
reserved, and a first step on that way is to add a flag controlling
it.

Tim Northover 8cd39a2630 Re-reapply r221924: "[GVN] Perform Scalar PRE on gep indices that feed loads before

It's not really expected to stick around, last time it provoked a weird LTO
build failure that I can't reproduce now, and the bot logs are long gone. I'll
re-revert it if the failures recur.

Tim Northover c875ab329b ARM: convert isTargetIOS checks to isTargetDarwin.
The distinction is mostly useful in the front-end. By the time we get here,
there are very few situations where we actually want different behaviour for
Darwin and IOS (in fact Darwin mostly just exists in a few tests). So this
should reduce any surprising weirdness for anyone using it.

No functional change on anything anyone actually cares about.

Quite a major error here: the expansions for the Pseudos with and without

Tim Northover 1dad6937c5 AArch64: don't be too greedy when folding :lo12: accesses into mem ops.
This frequently leads to cases like:
   ldr xD, [xN, :lo12:var]
   add xA, xN, :lo12:var
   ldr xD, [xA, #8]

where the ADD would have been needed anyway, and the two distinct addressing
modes can prevent the formation of an ldp. Because of how we handle ADRP
(aggressively forming an ADRP/ADD pseudo-inst at ISel time), this pattern also
results in duplicated ADRP instructions (one on its own to cover the ldr, and
one combined with the add).

Tim Northover d7a4f74f15 AArch64: treat [N x Ty] as a block during procedure calls.
The AAPCS treats small structs and homogeneous floating (or vector) aggregates
specially, and guarantees they either get passed as a contiguous block of
registers, or prevent any future use of those registers and get passed on the
stack.

This concept can fit quite neatly into LLVM's own type system, mapping an HFA
to [N x float] and so on, and small structs to [N x i64]. Doing so allows
front-ends to emit AAPCS compliant code without having to duplicate the
register counting logic.

Tim Northover 52e76186d3 ARM: refactor .cfi_def_cfa_offset emission.
We use to track quite a few "adjusted" offsets through the FrameLowering code
to account for changes in the prologue instructions as we went and allow the
emission of correct CFA annotations. However, we were missing a couple of cases
and the code was almost impenetrable.

It's easier to just add any stack-adjusting instruction to a list and emit them
together.

When we folded the DPR alignment gap into a push, we weren't noting the extra

getTargetConstant should only be used when you can guarantee the instruction

generic for this so we should use getConstant instead. In that case, an

materialised through its own round of ISel.

We currently try to push an even number of registers to preserve 8-byte

Tim Northover 1f771b80c0 ARM/Dwarf: correctly align stack before callee-saved VPRs
We were making an attempt to do this by adding an extra callee-saved GPR (so
that there was an even number in the list), but when that failed we went ahead
and pushed anyway.

This had a couple of potential issues:
+ The .cfi directives we emit misplaced dN because they were based on
    PrologEpilogInserter's calculation.
+ Unaligned stores can be less efficient.
+ Unaligned stores can actually fault (likely only an issue in niche cases,
    but possible).

This adds a final explicit stack adjustment if all other options fail, so that
the actual locations of the registers match up with where they should be.

Tim Northover c0ecebb32b ScheduleDAG: record PhysReg dependencies represented by CopyFromReg nodes
x86's CMPXCHG -> EFLAGS consumer wasn't being recorded as a real EFLAGS
dependency because it was represented by a pair of CopyFromReg(EFLAGS) ->
CopyToReg(EFLAGS) nodes. ScheduleDAG was expecting the source to be an
implicit-def on the instruction, where the result numbers in the DAG and the

Tim Northover 4e399f4500 ARM: rework Thumb1 frame index rewriting
The previous code had a few problems, motivating the choices here.

1. It could create instructions clobbering CPSR, but the incoming MachineInstr
didn't reflect this. A potential source of corruption. This is why the patch
has a new PseudoInst for before lowering.
2. Similarly, there was some code to handle the incoming instruction not being
ARMCC::AL, but this would have caused massive problems if it was actually
invoked when a complex offset needing more than one instruction was requested.
3. It wasn't designed to handle unaligned pointers (or offsets). These should
probably be minimised anyway, but the code needs to deal with them properly
   regardless.
4. It had some rather dubious ad-hoc code to avoid calling
emitThumbRegPlusImmediate, a function which should be designed to do precisely
   this job.

We seem to cover the common cases correctly now, and hopefully can enhance
emitThumbRegPlusImmediate to handle any extra optimisations we need to add in
future.

Tim Northover 7419c9c0c0 ARM: remove ARM/Thumb distinction for preferred alignment.
Thumb1 has legitimate reasons for preferring 32-bit alignment of types
i1/i8/i16, since the 16-bit encoding of "add rD, sp, #imm" requires #imm to be
a multiple of 4. However, this is a trade-off betweem code size and RAM usage;
the DataLayout string is not the best place to represent it even if desired.

So this patch removes the extra Thumb requirements, hopefully making ARM and
Thumb completely compatible in this respect.

Tim Northover 8dcac5d77a AArch64: fix vector-immediate BIC/ORR on big-endian devices.
Follow up to r217138, extending the logic to other NEON-immediate instructions.
As before, the instruction already performs the correct operation and we're
just using a different type for convenience, so we want a true nop-cast.

Tim Northover dfe4e3e706 AArch64: fix big-endian immediate materialisation
We were materialising big-endian constants using DAG nodes with types different
from what was requested, followed by a bitcast. This is fine on little-endian
machines where bitcasting is a nop, but we need a slightly different
representation for big-endian. This adds a new set of NVCAST (natural-vector
cast) operations which are always nops.

Tim Northover 1e77dc84c4 AArch64: only try to get operand of a known node.
A bug in r216725 meant we tried to discover the type of a SETCC before
confirming the node actually was a SETCC.

Tim Northover 1f70cb9c14 AArch64: skip select/setcc combine in complex case.
In an llvm-stress generated test, we were trying to create a v0iN type and
asserting when that failed. This case could probably be handled by the
function, but not without added complexity and the situation it arises in is
sufficiently odd that there's probably no benefit anyway.

Should fix PR20775.

Tim Northover 049ffbbdf2 TableGen: allow use of uint64_t for available features mask.
ARM in particular is getting dangerously close to exceeding 32 bits worth of
possible subtarget features. When this happens, various parts of MC start to
fail inexplicably as masks get truncated to "unsigned".

Mostly just refactoring at present, and there's probably no way to test.
