John Criswell 009900b512 Fixed a small grammatical error. 
Explained that function return types cannot be aggregate types.
Explained that functions with the same name but different type signatures
are considered to be different functions.

John Criswell 33a911a5c6 Configure all project directories contained in llvm/projects. 
The autoconf program will generate a warning about how we should use a
literal in AC_CONFIG_SUBDIRS.  This warning can be ignored.

John Criswell b3866b69a5 All directory targets now install the Makefile only if it is missing. 
Directory targets no longer check for existance of the directory in the
object tree; if the Makefile doesn't exist, we will re-create the directory.
This seems to be a pretty good assumption and saves us from checking
directory existance each time.

John Criswell 6057760793 Added a pseudo-hack: The Makefile now copies Makefiles from source tree to 
object tree if it is missing.  This means that new Makefiles should get
picked up automagically, requiring less bothersome re-configuring after
updates.

John Criswell fed0b2995e Regress to not using the llvm namespace. 
This keeps Pool Allocation stuff from compiling.

John Criswell 700867bb69 Checking in Chris's suggestions: 
Added assert() to ensure symbol table is well formed.
Added code to remember the value that was found; resolving types can change
the symbol table and invalidate the value of the iterator.
Added comments to the ResolveTypes() function (mainly for my own benefit).
Please feel free to correct the comments if they are not accurate.

John Criswell a4c535284e Modified build rules so that a messages appears before and after linking. 
This helps to disambiguate when linking begins and when the library/program
is linked and ready to be used.
This is sort of as preference thing, so feel free to modify/revert the change.

John Criswell 3ab71367d0 Made the Requirements information its own major section and moved it 
between the "Getting Started Quickly" and "Getting Started Slowly" sections.

Removed some of the nit-picky requirements information (i.e. GNU tar and
GNU zip).
Attempted to compact the requirements information so that it is less scary.

John Criswell 11b2dbd5f8 Removed the .PRECIOUS of Lex and Yacc output files. 
They are already marked precious in llvm/Makefile.rules, and removing
this line seems to fix the Makefile so that the Yacc output is placed
into the object tree and not the source tree.

John Criswell 7a4b96d0ba Added a section on all of the wonderful Makefile variables used to locate 
LLVM.
Added information on how to use the autoconf code to specify LLVM's
location and setup separate source and object trees.
Fixed some of the wording to be more accurate, especially regarding the
building of libraries.
Added information on where built files are placed.
Added a link to the llvmdev mailing list so that they can ask us questions.

John Criswell a1f7cac027 Renamed the feature subtests so that they do not begin with 'f'. It was 
never necessary to do that to denote them as feature tests.
Removed the Feature.asm tests as they are the same as the Feature.mc

John Criswell abb1b588c2 Removed information about compiling the GCC front end. This will be in a 
separate document that we will provide to people who request the source.
Updated the support architecture information to be a little more precise.
Added hyperlinks for all of the tools which are required for building LLVM.
This should make it easier for people to find and install these required
tools.
Italicized some of the "variables" that we use in place of absolute paths.
Added the --enable-spec2000 option to the quick start section.
Other minor changes/corrections/clarifications.

John Criswell 20d2d3e67f Re-did some of the text wrapping (sorry). 
Made the "Getting Started Quickly" material its own section.  I think this makes
the document easier to read.
Added bars after every major section heading (to distinguish them more easily from
sub-section headings).
Renamed C front end to GCC front end, as we now support C and C++.
Updated material to reflect the new autoconf-style object root.
Added material about the llvm/runtime directory and the fact that you need to
install the GCC front end before building LLVM (before, it was optional).

John Criswell 5512659f36 Renamed -use-spec to -use-spec2000. 
The pathname to SPEC2000 is now given with the -use-spec2000 option.
On our machines, SPEC2000 will be enabled by default.

John Criswell f424d7481e Switching over to the new test database. 
Adding new qmt files should no longer be necessary.
QMTest should know just "magically" know what sort of test each file is.

John Criswell 4797826e17 Changed all of these tests to be TestRunner tests (or, at least they can be 
TestRunner tests).
This makes creating the new test database class easier to implement.
