bb5f6229f4 TableGen: introduce support for MSBuiltin
Add MSBuiltin which is similar in vein to GCCBuiltin. This allows for adding
intrinsics for Microsoft compatibility to individual instructions. This is
needed to permit the creation of ARM specific MSVC extensions.

This is not currently in use, and requires an associated change in clang to
enable use of the intrinsics defined by this new class. This merely sets the
LLVM portion of the infrastructure in place to permit the use of this
functionality. A separate set of changes will enable the new intrinsics.

a42211335a DebugInfo: Ensure that all debug location scope chains from instructions within a function, lead to the function itself.
Originally committed in r211723, reverted in r211724 due to failure
cases found and fixed (ArgumentPromotion: r211872, Inlining: r212065),
committed again in r212085 and reverted again in r212089 after fixing
some other cases, such as debug info subprogram lists not keeping track
of the function they represent (r212128) and then short-circuiting
things like LiveDebugVariables that build LexicalScopes for functions
that might not have full debug info.

And again, I believe the invariant actually holds for some reasonable
amount of code (but I'll keep an eye on the buildbots and see what
happens... ).

Original commit message:

PR20038: DebugInfo: Inlined call sites where the caller has debug info
but the call itself has no debug location.

This situation does bad things when inlined, so I've fixed Clang not to
produce inlinable call sites without locations when the caller has debug
info (in the one case where I could find that this occurred). This
updates the PR20038 test case to be what clang now produces, and readds
the assertion that had to be removed due to this bug.

I've also beefed up the debug info verifier to help diagnose these
issues in the future, and I hope to add checks to the inliner to just
assert-fail if it encounters this situation. If, in the future, we
decide we have to cope with this situation, the right thing to do is
probably to just remove all the DebugLocs from the inlined instructions.

2559070422 Introduce a string_ostream string builder facilty
string_ostream is a safe and efficient string builder that combines opaque
stack storage with a built-in ostream interface.

small_string_ostream<bytes> additionally permits an explicit stack storage size
other than the default 128 bytes to be provided. Beyond that, storage is
transferred to the heap.

This convenient class can be used in most places an
std::string+raw_string_ostream pair or SmallString<>+raw_svector_ostream pair
would previously have been used, in order to guarantee consistent access
without byte truncation.

The patch also converts much of LLVM to use the new facility. These changes
include several probable bug fixes for truncated output, a programming error
that's no longer possible with the new interface.

bb167336b3 Rename loop unrolling and loop vectorizer metadata to have a common prefix.
[LLVM part]

These patches rename the loop unrolling and loop vectorizer metadata
such that they have a common 'llvm.loop.' prefix. Metadata name
changes:

llvm.vectorizer.* => llvm.loop.vectorizer.*
llvm.loopunroll.* => llvm.loop.unroll.*

This was a suggestion from an earlier review
(http://reviews.llvm.org/D4090) which added the loop unrolling
metadata.

b4840d7a4d Random Number Generator (llvm)
Provides an abstraction for a random number generator (RNG) that produces a stream of pseudo-random numbers.
The current implementation uses C++11 facilities and is therefore not cryptographically secure.

The RNG is salted with the text of the current command line invocation.
In addition, a user may specify a seed (reproducible builds).

In clang, the seed can be set via

-frandom-seed=X
In the back end, the seed can be set via

-rng-seed=X
This is the llvm part of the patch.

10ec44d87a Add new debug kind LocTrackingOnly.
Summary:
This new debug emission kind supports emitting line location
information in all instructions, but stops code generation
from emitting debug info to the final output.

This mode is useful when the backend wants to track source
locations during code generation, but it does not want to
produce debug info. This is currently used by optimization
remarks (-pass-remarks, -pass-remarks-missed and
-pass-remarks-analysis).

To prevent debug info emission, DIBuilder never inserts the
annotation 'llvm.dbg.cu' when LocTrackingOnly is enabled.

ed4e8a839f The count() function for STL datatypes returns unsigned, even where it's
only 1/0 result like std::set. Some of the LLVM ADT already return unsigned
count(), while others still return bool count().

In continuation to r197879, this patch modifies DenseMap, DenseSet,
ScopedHashTable, ValueMap:: count() to return size_type instead of bool,
1 instead of true and 0 instead of false.

size_type is typedef-ed locally within each class to size_t.

When emitting optimization remarks, we test for the presence of
instruction locations by testing for a valid llvm.dbg.cu annotation.
This is slightly inefficient because we can simply ask whether the
debug location we have is known or not.

Additionally, if my current plan works, I will need to remove the
llvm.dbg.cu annotation from the IL (or prevent it from being generated)
when -Rpass is used without -g. In those cases, we'll want to generate
line tables but we will want to prevent code generation from emitting
DWARF code for them.

8f2a85e099 IR: add "cmpxchg weak" variant to support permitted failure.
This commit adds a weak variant of the cmpxchg operation, as described
in C++11. A cmpxchg instruction with this modifier is permitted to
fail to store, even if the comparison indicated it should.

As a result, cmpxchg instructions must return a flag indicating
success in addition to their original iN value loaded. Thus, for
uniformity *all* cmpxchg instructions now return "{ iN, i1 }". The
second flag is 1 when the store succeeded.

At the DAG level, a new ATOMIC_CMP_SWAP_WITH_SUCCESS node has been
added as the natural representation for the new cmpxchg instructions.
It is a strong cmpxchg.

By default this gets Expanded to the existing ATOMIC_CMP_SWAP during
Legalization, so existing backends should see no change in behaviour.
If they wish to deal with the enhanced node instead, they can call
setOperationAction on it. Beware: as a node with 2 results, it cannot
be selected from TableGen.

Currently, no use is made of the extra information provided in this
patch. Test updates are almost entirely adapting the input IR to the
new scheme.

Summary for out of tree users:
------------------------------

+ Legacy Bitcode files are upgraded during read.
+ Legacy assembly IR files will be invalid.
+ Front-ends must adapt to different type for "cmpxchg".
+ Backends should be unaffected by default.

070d532aaf Remove pimpl class from PassRegistry.
Since removeRegistrationListener is no longer called during static
destruction, we can get rid of the pimpl in PassRegistry.

This should clean up the code somewhat, increase clarity, and also
allows us to put the Lock as a member of the class, instead of as a
ManagedStatic.

As part of this change, the PassInfo class is moved from
PassSupport.h to its own file, to eliminate the otherwise circular
header dependency between PassRegistry.h and PassSupport.h

The verifier follows GlobalAlias operands so that it can detect cycles of

This patch removes the functions llvm_start_multithreaded() and

to return a constant value based on the value of the compile-time
definition LLVM_ENABLE_THREADS.

Previously, it was possible to have compile-time support for
threads on, and runtime support for threads off, in which case
certain mutexes were not allocated or ever acquired. Now, if the
build is created with threads enabled, mutexes are always acquired.

A test before/after patch of compiling a very large TU showed no

6fd1b8ee48 Allow aliases to be unnamed_addr.
Alias with unnamed_addr were in a strange state. It is stored in GlobalValue,
the language reference talks about "unnamed_addr aliases" but the verifier
was rejecting them.

It seems natural to allow unnamed_addr in aliases:

* It is a property of how it is accessed, not of the data itself.
* It is perfectly possible to write code that depends on the address
of an alias.

This patch then makes unname_addr legal for aliases. One side effect is that
the syntax changes for a corner case: In globals, unnamed_addr is now printed
before the address space.

2d21b25393 Allow alias to point to an arbitrary ConstantExpr.
This patch changes GlobalAlias to point to an arbitrary ConstantExpr and it is
up to MC (or the system assembler) to decide if that expression is valid or not.

This reduces our ability to diagnose invalid uses and how early we can spot
them, but it also lets us do things like

@test5 = alias inttoptr(i32 sub (i32 ptrtoint (i32* @test2 to i32),
                                 i32 ptrtoint (i32* @bar to i32)) to i32*)

An important implication of this patch is that the notion of aliased global
doesn't exist any more. The alias has to encode the information needed to
access it in its metadata (linkage, visibility, type, etc).

Another consequence to notice is that getSection has to return a "const char *".
It could return a NullTerminatedStringRef if there was such a thing, but when
that was proposed the decision was to just uses "const char*" for that.

-pass-remarks-missed is used by LLVMContext::emitOptimizationRemarkMissed,
which passes call when they tried to apply a transformation but

-pass-remarks-analysis is used by LLVMContext::emitOptimizationRemarkAnalysis,

27c076ae40 Fix most of PR10367.
This patch changes the design of GlobalAlias so that it doesn't take a
ConstantExpr anymore. It now points directly to a GlobalObject, but its type is
independent of the aliasee type.

To avoid changing all alias related tests in this patches, I kept the common
syntax

@foo = alias i32* @bar

to mean the same as now. The cases that used to use cast now use the more
general syntax

@foo = alias i16, i32* @bar.

Note that GlobalAlias now behaves a bit more like GlobalVariable. We
know that its type is always a pointer, so we omit the '*'.

For the bitcode, a nice surprise is that we were writing both identical types
already, so the format change is minimal. Auto upgrade is handled by looking
through the casts and no new fields are needed for now. New bitcode will
simply have different types for Alias and Aliasee.

One last interesting point in the patch is that replaceAllUsesWith becomes
smart enough to avoid putting a ConstantExpr in the aliasee. This seems better
than checking and updating every caller.

A followup patch will delete getAliasedGlobal now that it is redundant. Another
patch will add support for an explicit offset.

9bc1b73c9e Add C API for thread yielding callback.
Sometimes a LLVM compilation may take more time then a client would like to
wait for. The problem is that it is not possible to safely suspend the LLVM
thread from the outside. When the timing is bad it might be possible that the
LLVM thread holds a global mutex and this would block any progress in any other
thread.

This commit adds a new yield callback function that can be registered with a
context. LLVM will try to yield by calling this callback function, but there is
no guaranteed frequency. LLVM will only do so if it can guarantee that
suspending the thread won't block any forward progress in other LLVM contexts
in the same process.

Once the client receives the call back it can suspend the thread safely and
resume it at another time.

d5db8765d6 Implement global merge optimization for global variables.
This commit implements two command line switches -global-merge-on-external
and -global-merge-aligned, and both of them are false by default, so this
optimization is disabled by default for all targets.

For ARM64, some back-end behaviors need to be tuned to get this optimization
further enabled.

834384bf5b Split GlobalValue into GlobalValue and GlobalObject.
This allows code to statically accept a Function or a GlobalVariable, but
not an alias. This is already a cleanup by itself IMHO, but the main
reason for it is that it gives a lot more confidence that the refactoring to fix
the design of GlobalAlias is correct. That will be a followup patch.

d30c11edde Revert "[ms-cxxabi] Add a new calling convention that swaps 'this' and 'sret'"
This reverts commit r200561.

This calling convention was an attempt to match the MSVC C++ ABI for
methods that return structures by value. This solution didn't scale,
because it would have required splitting every CC available on Windows
into two: one for methods and one for free functions.

Now that we can put sret on the second arg (r208453), and Clang does
that (r208458), revert this hack.

805a83c041 Allow sret on the second parameter as well as the first
MSVC always places the implicit sret parameter after the implicit this
parameter of instance methods. We used to handle this for
x86_thiscallcc by allocating the sret parameter on the stack and leaving
the this pointer in ecx, but that doesn't handle alternative calling
conventions like cdecl, stdcall, fastcall, or the win64 convention.

Instead, change the verifier to allow sret on the second parameter.

This also requires changing the Mips and X86 backends to return the
argument with the sret parameter, instead of assuming that the sret
parameter comes first.

The Sparc backend also returns sret parameters in a register, but I
wasn't able to update it to handle secondary sret parameters. It
currently calls report_fatal_error if you feed it an sret in the second
parameter.

e3e870face Do not make -pass-remarks additive.
Summary:
When I initially introduced -pass-remarks, I thought it would be a
neat idea to make it additive. So, if one used it as:

$ llc -pass-remarks=inliner --pass-remarks=loop.*

the compiler would build the regular expression '(inliner)|(loop.*)'.

The more I think about it, the more I regret it. This is not how
other flags work. The standard semantics are right-to-left overrides.

This is how clang interprets -Rpass. And I think the two should be
compatible in this respect.
