Found that the subcommand _can_ be displayed if we jiggle the handle a bit! (so "acx kp5" shows exactly that in the usage details instead of "acx proof" which might be a bit confusing).

There were three lists of the subcommands: The flags (ex: "--checkit"), the dynamically added hidden subcommands, and the case statement setting up the proper checker in the dynamic subcommand. This combines the last two.
