Since Phase 6 the machine always has the Disk II controller, as in ewm_two_init — so booting without a disk hangs in the slot 6 boot ROM polling the empty drive, exactly like the C build and the real machine. The Phase 5 boot test now boots the System Master and evaluates PRINT 2+2 at the DOS-loaded AppleSoft prompt. (The local gate had masked this: the test failure disappeared behind a pipe.
