Added a "fancy" flag to MultiLineComment. If set, we will use
formatting commands embedded in the text itself. The max width pop-up
and "boxed" flag will be ignored in favor of width and boxing
directives. (See issue #111.)
The current "fancy" formatter is just a placeholder that folds lines
every 10 characters.
Removed FormattedMlcCache (added two changes back). Caching the
rendered string list in the MLC itself is simpler and more efficient
than having a separate cache, and it works for Notes as well.
Added anchors for more comments in the 20090 test.
Multi-line comments (MLCs) can span multiple lines, and are formatted
with word-wrapping. This isn't too expensive now, but languages
with immutable strings aren't ideal for this sort of thing. Before
we introduce fancier formatting, we want to ensure that we're not
going to adversely affect rendering performance.
The cache entry for a given offset is tied to the MLC object and the
Formatter; if either are changed, the cached string list will not be
used.
This adds a new data format option, "binary include", that takes a
filename operand. When assembly sources are generated, the section
of file is replaced with an appropriate pseudo-op, and binary files
are generated that hold the file contents. This is a convenient way
to remove large binary blobs, such as music or sound samples, that
aren't useful to have in text form in the sources.
Partial pathnames are allowed, so you can output a sound blob to
"sounds/blather.bin". For safety reasons, we don't allow the files
to be created above the project directory, and existing files will
only be overwritten if they have a matching length (so you don't
accidentally stomp on your project file).
The files are not currently shown in the GenAsm dialog, which lets
you see a preview of the generated sources. The hex dump tool
can do this for the (presumably rare) situations where it's useful.
A new regression test, 20300-binary-include, has been added. The
pseudo-op name can be overridden on-screen in the settings.
We don't currently do anything new for text/HTML exports. It might
be useful to generate an optional appendix with a hex dump of the
excised sections.

The build flag causes the application to run as a 32-bit app on 64-bit
systems, which we don't want. We're still using "Any CPU" as the
platform target, so it will continue to work on 32-bit x86 systems;
we just no longer force it to always be 32-bit.
This only affects the main .NET Framework application executable.
The setting is not relevant for the libraries.
(Note to future self: the way things work changed with .NET Core,
which requires different executables for different targets, specified
with the RID. The older .NET Framework is Windows-only, which makes
it easier to have a single multi-target EXE.)
Some debuggers allow you to import a list of labels for addresses.
This adds a command that generates a file full of labels in a
specific format. Currently the VICE monitor format is supported.

The initial screen is largely blank, with just the four large buttons
for new/open/recent1/recent2. It now also has a "tip of the day" box,
with text and an optional image.
The tips and images are kept in the RuntimeData directory. They're
small enough that they could have been baked into the binary, but
there's enough other stuff going on there that it didn't seem
necessary. Also, if the tips annoy you, removing the tips file will
hide the tip UI.
The index of the tip shown is based on the day of the year, modulo
the number of defined tips. So it will be different every day (with
a bit of hand-waving at the end of the year).
Updated project file format to save the new map entries.
Tweaked appearance of .arend directives to show the .arstart address
in the operand field. This makes it easier to match them up on screen.
Also, add a synthetic comment on auto-generated .arstart entries.
Added .arstart/.arend to the things that respond to Jump to Operand
(Ctrl+J). Selecting one jumps to the other end. (Well, it jumps
to the code nearest the other, which will do for now.)
Added a menu item to display a text rendering of the address map.
Helpful when things get complicated.
Modified the linear map iterator to return .arend items with the offset
of the last byte in the region, rather than the first byte of the
following region. While the "exclusive end" approach is pretty
common, it caused problems when updating the line list, because it
meant that the .arend directives were outside the range of offsets
being updated (and, for directives at the end of the file, outside
the file itself). This was painful to deal with for partial updates.
Changing this required some relatively subtle changes and annoyed some
of the debug assertions, such as the one where all Line items have
offsets that match the start of a line, but it's the cleaner approach.
This is still an "experimental" feature, but it's getting expanded
a bit. The implementation now lives in its own class. An "export"
feature that generates SGEC data has been added. The file extension
has been changed from ".sgec" to ".txt" to make it simpler to edit
under Windows.
On the 65816, 16-bit data access instructions (e.g. LDA abs) are
expanded to 24 bits by merging in the Data Bank Register (B). The
value of the register is difficult to determine via static analysis,
so we need a way to annotate the disassembly with the correct value.
Without this, the mapping of address to file offset will sometimes
be incorrect.
This change adds the basic data structures and "fixup" function, a
functional but incomplete editor, and source for a new test case.
Added generation of the relocation dictionary and constant body for
segments in Load files.
Also, don't reject files with v1 segments (whose length is specified
as a block count) just because the EOF isn't a multiple of 512 bytes.
Some executables don't pad out the last block.
Various tweaks to output formatting.
Added generation of info/error messages to segment parser, which
are displayed in the main OMF viewer window.
Added segment viewer window, which opens when a segment entry in the
viewer list is double-clicked. Currently shows the "raw" header
fields, with place-holder UI for additional stuff.
It's nice to be able to save images from the visualization editor
for display elsewhere. This can be done during HTML export, but
that's inconvenient when you just want one image, and doesn't allow
the output size to be specified.
This change adds an Export button to the Edit Visualization dialog.
The current bitmap, wireframe, or wireframe animation can be saved
to a GIF image. A handful of sizes can be selected from a pop-up
menu.
Moved X/Y/Z rotation out of the plugin, since it has nothing to do
with the plugin at all. (Backface removal and perspective projection
are somewhat based on the data contents, as is the choice for
whether or not they should be options.)
Added sliders for X/Y/Z rotation. Much more fun that way.
Renamed VisualizationAnimation to VisBitmapAnimation, as we're not
going to use it for wireframe animation. Created a new class to
hold wireframe animation data, which is really just a reference to
the IVisualizationWireframe so we can generate an animated GIF
without having to pry open the plugin again.
Renamed the "frame-delay-msec" parameter, which should start with
an underscore to ensure it doesn't clash with plugin parameters.
If we don't find it with an underscore we check again without for
backward compatibility.
We extract the data from the wireframe visualization, perform a
trivial transform, and display it. The perspective vs.
orthographic flag in the parameters is respected. (No rotation or
backface removal yet.)
Also, increased the thumbnail sizes in the visualization set editor
list from 48x48 to 64x64, because the nearest-pixel-scaled 48x48
looks nasty when used for wireframes.
The tool allows you to cut a piece out of a file by specifying an
offset and a length. A pair of hex dumps helps you verify that the
positions are correct.
Also, minor cleanups elsewhere.
Bitmap animations are composed of a sequence of other visualizations.
This is all well and good until a visualization is deleted, at which
point all animations in all sets in the entire project have to be
checked and potentially changed, and perhaps even removed (if all of
the animation's members have been removed). This turns out to be
kind of annoying to deal with, but it's better to deal with it in
code than force the user to manually update broken animations.
This change adds thumbnails for the animations, currently generated
by offscreen composition. This approach doesn't work quite right.
This adds a new class and a rough GUI for the editor. Animated
visualizations take a collection of bitmaps and display them in
sequence. (This will eventually become an animated GIF.)
Fixed the issue where changes to tags in the set currently being
edited weren't visible to the tag uniqueness check when editing other
items in the same set.
The Visualization and Visualization Set editors are now fully
functional. You can create, edit, and rearrange sets, and they're
now stored in the project file.
Basic infrastructure for taking a list of parameters from a plugin
and turning it into a collection of UI controls, merging in values
from a Visualization object. Doesn't yet do anything useful.
WPF makes the hard things easy and the easy things hard. This was
a hard thing, so it was easy to do (with some helpful sample code).
Yay WPF?
This adds a window that displays all of the instructions for a
given CPU in a summary grid. Undocumented instructions are
included, but shown in grey italics.
Also, tweaked AppSettings to not mark itself as dirty if a "set"
operation doesn't actually change anything.
This converts the "problem list viewer" tool to a grid that appears
below the code list view when non-empty. Not all messages are
problems, so it's being renamed to "message list".
Most of SourceGen uses standard WPF controls, which get their default
style from the system theme. The main disassembly list uses a
custom style, and always looks like the Windows default theme.
Some people greatly prefer white text on a black background, so we
now provide a way to get that. This also requires muting the colors
used for Notes, since those were chosen to contrast with black text.
This does not affect anything other than the ListView used for
code, because everything else can be set through the Windows
"personalization" interface. We might want to change the way the
Notes window looks though, to avoid having glowing bookmarks on
the side.
The analyzer sometimes runs into things that don't seem right, like
hidden labels or references to non-existent symbols, but has no way
to report them. This adds a problem viewer.
I'm not quite ready to turn this into a real feature, so for now it's
a free-floating window accessed from the debug menu.
Also, updated some documentation.
Ported the column width stuff from EditAppSettings, which it turns
out can be simplified slightly.
Moved the clipboard copy code out into its own class.
Disabled "File > Print", which has never done anything and isn't
likely to do anything in the near future.
Also, added a note to 2019-local-variables about a test case it
should probably have.
Rearrange the UI elements, and convert the code-behind to a more
XAML-style form. The basic stuff works, but the old "shortcut"
system is still in the process of being replaced.
The code that checked to see if a data target was inside a data
operand wasn't going all the way back to the start of the file.
It was also failing to stop when it should, wasting time.
The anattrib validation method has code that avoids a false-positive
on certain complex embedded instruction arrangements. This was also
preventing it from seeing a transition from a data area to the
middle of an instruction (caused by issue #45).
Variables are now handled properly end-to-end, except for label
uniquification. So cc65 and ACME can't yet handle a file that
redefines a local variable.
This required a bunch of plumbing, but I think it came out okay.
String operands used to be simple -- each line had 62 characters
plus two hard-coded non-ASCII delimiters -- but now we're mixing
character and hex data, so we can't use simple math to tell where
the lines will break. We want to render them and keep the result
around until some dependency changes, e.g. different delimiters
or a change to the pseudo-op table.
Also, cleaned up LineListGen a little. It had some methods that
were declared static because they were expected to be shared, but
that never happened.
Also, fixed a bug in GatherEntityCounts where multi-line items were
being scanned multiple times.
Remove left/right arrow PNGs. Remove duplicate copies of icon.
Tweak some comments. Set application icon. Adjust padding on
group boxes in first tab of app settings.
This generalizes the string pseudo-operand formatter, moving it into
the Asm65 library. The assembly source generators have been updated
to use it. This makes the individual generators simpler, and by
virtue of avoiding "test runs" should make them slightly faster.
This also introduces byte-to-character converters, though we're
currently still only supporting low/high ASCII.
Regression test output is unchanged.
SourceGen creates "auto" labels when it finds a reference to an
address that doesn't have a label associated with it. The label for
address $1234 would be "L1234". This change allows the project to
specify alternative label naming conventions, annotating them with
information from the cross-reference data. For example, a subroutine
entry point (i.e. the target of a JSR) would be "S_1234". (The
underscore was added to avoid confusion when an annotation letter
is the same as a hex digit.)
Also, tweaked the way the preferred clipboard line format is stored
in the settings file (was an integer, now an enumeration string).
