edis shared library in the Makefile build, also stop building it in the
CMake build.

inlined variable, based on the discussion in PR10542.
This explodes the runtime of several passes down the pipeline due to
a large number of "copies" remaining live across a large function. This
only shows up with both debug and opt, but when it does it creates
a many-minute compile when self-hosting LLVM+Clang. There are several
other cases that show these types of regressions.
All of this is tracked in PR10542, and progress is being made on fixing
the issue. Once its addressed, the re-instated, but until then this
restores the performance for self-hosting and other opt+debug builds.
Devang, let me know if this causes any trouble, or impedes fixing it in
any way, and thanks for working on this!

TableGen deps introduced in r136023. This completes the fixing that
dgregor started in r136621. Sorry for missing these the first time
around.
This should fix some of the random race-condition failures people are
still seeing with CMake.

them properly. Specifically, the disassembler clearly attempts to
initialiaze all TargetInfo, MCTargeDesc, AsmParser, and Disassembler
sublibraries of registered targets. This makes the CMakeLists accurately
reflect this intent in the code.
This should fix the last of the link errors that I have gotten reports
of on OS X, but if anyone continues to see link errors, continue to
pester me and I'll look into it.

sub-library for the targets depended on the core target CodeGen library.
This completely undermined the careful work to separate the those
libraries, especially the MC-layer ones. This surfaced as circular
dependencies when the libraries were built as shared libraries where
CMake doesn't allow cycles.
This should fix PR10537. I'll watch the bots to see if there is fallout
on other platforms.

globally scoped constructs. Also, round-trip these dependencies through
the LLVMConfig.cmake.in file thata is used by CMake-based clients of
"installed" (or built) LLVM trees.

for targets that don't have an MC-ized disassembler. I'm suspicious that
this shouldn't actually be happening, but hoping to fix the CMake build
on macs first, and investigate why second.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@136508 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
First off, only depend on the actual MC-ized disassemblers in the
targets, not all of the libraries those in turn depend on.
Second off, only depend on those MC-ized disassemblers for targets we're
building.
This should fix builds of fewer than all targets.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@136455 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
specified in the same file that the library itself is created. This is
more idiomatic for CMake builds, and also allows us to correctly specify
dependencies that are missed due to bugs in the GenLibDeps perl script,
or change from compiler to compiler. On Linux, this returns CMake to
a place where it can relably rebuild several targets of LLVM.
I have tried not to change the dependencies from the ones in the current
auto-generated file. The only places I've really diverged are in places
where I was seeing link failures, and added a dependency. The goal of
this patch is not to start changing the dependencies, merely to move
them into the correct location, and an explicit form that we can control
and change when necessary.
This also removes a serialization point in the build because we don't
have to scan all the libraries before we begin building various tools.
We no longer have a step of the build that regenerates a file inside the
source tree. A few other associated cleanups fall out of this.
This isn't really finished yet though. After talking to dgregor he urged
switching to a single CMake macro to construct libraries with both
sources and dependencies in the arguments. Migrating from the two macros
to that style will be a follow-up patch.
Also, llvm-config is still generated with GenLibDeps.pl, which means it
still has slightly buggy dependencies. The internal CMake
'llvm-config-like' macro uses the correct explicitly specified
dependencies however. A future patch will switch llvm-config generation
(when using CMake) to be based on these deps as well.
This may well break Windows. I'm getting a machine set up now to dig
into any failures there. If anyone can chime in with problems they see
or ideas of how to solve them for Windows, much appreciated.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@136433 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
The first problem to fix is to stop creating synthetic *Table_gen
targets next to all of the LLVM libraries. These had no real effect as
CMake specifies that add_custom_command(OUTPUT ...) directives (what the
'tablegen(...)' stuff expands to) are implicitly added as dependencies
to all the rules in that CMakeLists.txt.
These synthetic rules started to cause problems as we started more and
more heavily using tablegen files from *subdirectories* of the one where
they were generated. Within those directories, the set of tablegen
outputs was still available and so these synthetic rules added them as
dependencies of those subdirectories. However, they were no longer
properly associated with the custom command to generate them. Most of
the time this "just worked" because something would get to the parent
directory first, and run tablegen there. Once run, the files existed and
the build proceeded happily. However, as more and more subdirectories
have started using this, the probability of this failing to happen has
increased. Recently with the MC refactorings, it became quite common for
me when touching a large enough number of targets.
To add insult to injury, several of the backends *tried* to fix this by
adding explicit dependencies back to the parent directory's tablegen
rules, but those dependencies didn't work as expected -- they weren't
forming a linear chain, they were adding another thread in the race.
This patch removes these synthetic rules completely, and adds a much
simpler function to declare explicitly that a collection of tablegen'ed
files are referenced by other libraries. From that, we can add explicit
dependencies from the smaller libraries (such as every architectures
Desc library) on this and correctly form a linear sequence. All of the
backends are updated to use it, sometimes replacing the existing attempt
at adding a dependency, sometimes adding a previously missing dependency
edge.
Please let me know if this causes any problems, but it fixes a rather
persistent and problematic source of build flakiness on our end.

refactorings. Several places that shouldn't have dependend on Target no
longer do. Also almost all of the CodeGen dependencies have gone away
for the MCDisassembler. Others add reasonable dependencies within the
target-specific layers.

The header file was already properly located. The previous need for it
in Support had to do with the version string printing which was fixed in
r135757.
Also update build dependencies where libraries that needed the
functionality of the Target library (in the form of the TargetRegistry)
were picking it up via Support. This is pretty pervasive, essentially
every TargetInfo library (ARMInfo, etc) uses TargetRegistry, making it
depend on Target. All of these were previously just sneaking by.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@135760 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
Evan's recent refactorings (I believe). Specifically, MCDisassembler no
longer depends on Target, and ARMDisassembler no longer depends on
CodeGen. The added dependencies from ARMAsmParser to ARMDesc looks
correct based on header file inclusion.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@135759 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
the Support library. Now its part of the TargetRegistry, and the three
commands that care about this explicitly register this extra bit of
version information.
The set of commands which care was computed by intersecting those which
use the Support library's version string printing and those that
initialize all the registered targets in a way that produces
a meaningful list. The only odd ball out is that 'clang -cc1as -version'
no longer prints the registered targets. I don't think anyone is really
interested in that (especially as the fact that llvm-mc does so is under
a FIXME), but if someone really does want this back I'll happily apply
the same patch there.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@135757 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
function on the TargetRegistry. Also clean it up and use the modern LLVM
utility libraries available instead of rolling a few things manually.

register extra version information to be printed. This is designed to
allow those tools which link in various targets to also print those
registered targets under --version.
Currently this printing logic is embedded into the Support library
directly; a huge layering violation. This is the first step to hoisting
it out into the tools without adding lots of duplicated code.
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@135755 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

This is a bit of a hackish workaround to fix the compile after r135259.
Let me know if there is a better approach.

was really intended, and it may have been required prior to some of the
recent refactors. Including it however causes LLVMX86Desc to need
symbols from LLVMX86CodeGen, forming a dependency cycle. This was masked
in almost all builds: Clang, and GCC w/ optimizations didn't actually
emit the symbols!
git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@135242 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
backend. Moved some MCAsmInfo files down into the MCTargetDesc
sublibraries, removed some (i suspect long) dead files from other parts
of the CMake build, etc. Also copied the include directory hack from the
Makefile.
Finally, updated the lib deps. I spot checked this, and think its
correct, but review appreciated there.

always appear in the output of this file).

opening single quote with no closing single quote, and with {} quotes
"inside" of it. This broke some of our tools that scrape test cases.
Also, while here, make the test actually assert what the comment says it
asserts. This was essentially authored by Nick Lewycky, and merely typed
in by myself. Let me know if this is still missing the mark, but the
previous test only succeeded due to the improper quoting preventing
*anything* from matching the grep -- it had a '4(%...)' sequence in the
output!

a bit more sinister as the memset doesn't do what the constructor does.
There seems to be a cleaner solution than a cast here though, instead we
can point the memset destination into the union its actually trying to
clear.
An alternative is to point to the Untyped member of this union. Review
appreciated, and if that is cleaner I'm happy to switch. All of these
should be functionally equivalent to the original code.

a huge false positive rate such as *all* of these.
