d24d326705 [SDAG] Introduce a combined set to the DAG combiner which tracks nodes
which have successfully round-tripped through the combine phase, and use
this to ensure all operands to DAG nodes are visited by the combiner,
even if they are only added during the combine phase.

This is critical to have the combiner reach nodes that are *introduced*
during combining. Previously these would sometimes be visited and
sometimes not be visited based on whether they happened to end up on the
worklist or not. Now we always run them through the combiner.

This fixes quite a few bad codegen test cases lurking in the suite while
also being more principled. Among these, the TLS codegeneration is
particularly exciting for programs that have this in the critical path
like TSan-instrumented binaries (although I think they engineer to use
a different TLS that is faster anyways).

I've tried to check for compile-time regressions here by running llc
over a merged (but not LTO-ed) clang bitcode file and observed at most
a 3% slowdown in llc. Given that this is essentially a worst case (none
of opt or clang are running at this phase) I think this is tolerable.
The actual LTO case should be even less costly, and the cost in normal
compilation should be negligible.

With this combining logic, it is possible to re-legalize as we combine
which is necessary to implement PSHUFB formation on x86 as
a post-legalize DAG combine (my ultimate goal).

771e0ab32a Disambiguate function names in some CodeGen tests. (Some tests were using function names that also were names of instructions and/or doing other unusual things that were making the test not amenable to otherwise scriptable pattern matching.) No functionality change.

8b2b8a1835 Mass update to CodeGen tests to use CHECK-LABEL for labels corresponding to function definitions for more informative error messages. No functionality change and all updated tests passed locally.
This update was done with the following bash script:

b4dc0233c9 Convert CodeGen/*/*.ll tests to use the new CHECK-LABEL for easier debugging. No functionality change and all tests pass after conversion.
This was done with the following sed invocation to catch label lines demarking function boundaries:
    sed -i '' "s/^;\( *\)\([A-Z0-9_]*\):\( *\)test\([A-Za-z0-9_-]*\):\( *\)$/;\1\2-LABEL:\3test\4:\5/g" test/CodeGen/*/*.ll
which was written conservatively to avoid false positives rather than false negatives. I scanned through all the changes and everything looks correct.

a5526a9bff (For X86) Enhancement to add-carray/sub-borrow (adc/sbb) optimization.
The adc/sbb optimization is to able to convert following expression
into a single adc/sbb instruction:
  (ult) ... = x + 1 // where the ult is unsigned-less-than comparison
  (ult) ... = x - 1

  This change is to flip the "x >u y" (i.e. ugt comparison) in order
to expose the adc/sbb opportunity.

39ad568c62 X86: enable CSE between CMP and SUB
We perform the following:
1> Use SUB instead of CMP for i8,i16,i32 and i64 in ISel lowering.
2> Modify MachineCSE to correctly handle implicit defs.
3> Convert SUB back to CMP if possible at peephole.

Removed pattern matching of (a>b) ? (a-b):0 and like, since they are handled
by peephole now.

It is possible that an instruction can use and update EFLAGS.
When checking the safety, we should check the usage of EFLAGS first before
declaring it is safe to optimize due to the update.

d68e8cda24 Disable rematerialization in TwoAddressInstructionPass.
It is redundant; RegisterCoalescer will do the remat if it can't eliminate
the copy. Collected instruction counts before and after this. A few extra
instructions are generated due to spilling but it is normal to see these kinds
of changes with almost any small codegen change, according to Jakob.

This also fixed rdar://11830760 where xor is expected instead of movi0.

If we want to update the condition code of CMOV|SET|Jcc, we first analyze the
opcode to get the condition code, then update the condition code, finally
synthesize the new opcode form the new condition code.

This patch will optimize the following
    movq    %rdi, %rax
    subq    %rsi, %rax
    cmovsq  %rsi, %rdi
    movq    %rdi, %rax
to

Perform this optimization if the actual result of SUB is not used.

73c2f7f5ed X86: peephole optimization to remove cmp instruction

If the branch instruction can use flag from "sub", then we can eliminate
the "cmp" instruction.

d99d68bcee Fix two-address pass's aggressive instruction commuting heuristics. It's meant
to catch cases like:
 %reg1024<def> = MOV r1
 %reg1025<def> = MOV r0
 %reg1026<def> = ADD %reg1024, %reg1025
 r0            = MOV %reg1026

By commuting ADD, it let coalescer eliminate all of the copies. However, there
was a bug in the heuristics where it ended up commuting the ADD in:

 %reg1024<def> = MOV r0
 %reg1025<def> = MOV 0
 %reg1026<def> = ADD %reg1024, %reg1025
 r0            = MOV %reg1026

That did no benefit but rather ensure the last MOV would not be coalesced.

56f582d664 For x86, canonicalize max
(x > y) ? x : y
=>
(x >= y) ? x : y

So for something like
(x - y) > 0 : (x - y) ? 0
It will be
(x - y) >= 0 : (x - y) ? 0

This makes is possible to test sign-bit and eliminate a comparison against
zero. e.g.
subl   %esi, %edi
testl  %edi, %edi
movl   $0, %eax
cmovgl %edi, %eax
