8deeb2c59e Match screen dimensions as in BASIC. 
Experiments show that under BASIC by default
25 rows by 24 columns are used. 24 columns is
also the width that is fully displayed on a real
C1P on the monitor. conio now matches that now.

222668c016 Implemented a one-character buffer for kbhit() and cgetc(). 
If kbhit() detects that a key is pressed, it fetches and
buffers the character. If cgetc() detects a buffered character,
this one is returned instead of fetching one with the PROM
routine.

92e75e9df8 Incorporated another round of feedback for pull request.

09e50d433d * Changed the way that Atmos programs are started. 
- Put a BASIC-language stub at the beginning.
  - Removed the Autostart flag.

  Those changes make it easy to give command-line arguments to a program.

* Made the Atmos configure file accept a special symbol definition on ld65's command line.  We can use "__RAMEND__" to increase the amount of RAM that's available to programs.

2c975d3642 Create static drivers directly from source files. 
Up to now static drivers were created via co65 from dynamic drivers. However there was an issue with that approach:

The dynamic drivers are "o65 simple files" which obligates that they start with the 'code' segment. However dynamic drivers need to start with the module header - which is written to. For dynamic drivers this isn't more than a conceptual issue because they are always contain a 'data' segment and may therefore only be loaded into writable memory.

However when dynamic drivers are converted to static drivers using co65 then that issue becomes a real problem as then the 'code' segment may end up in non-writable memory - and thus writing to the module header fails.

Instead of changing the way dynamic drivers work I opted to rather make static driver creation totally independent from dynamic drivers. This allows to place the module header in the 'data' segment (see 'module.mac').

f82a43b98d Fixed the comments to say where the actual Left-Hand Side and Right-Hand Side are put. 
A description of positions [left, right] is appropriate more for C code than for Assembly code.  (A description of timing [first argument, second argument] is more appropriate for the way that Assembly code is written.)

d6c3bd29ac Renamed JUMPTABLE and cleaned up module.cfg. 
This change was suppsed to fix the issue that the former JUMPTABLE is merked as 'ro' while it is actually written to in several scenarios. When drivers are converted using co65 and then compiled into ROMs the JUMPTABLE isn't copied to RAM and therefore the write operations in question fail.

However unfortunately I didn't succeed in changing that :-( Just setting the former JUMPTABLE to 'rw' broke the drivers. So I placed the DATA segment directly after the former JUMPTABLE segment. This made the drivers converted with co65 work again - obviously after changing libsrc/Makefile:235 from '--code-label' to '--data-label'. But the actual dynamic drivers still didn't work as the former JUMPTABLE wasn't placed as the beginning of the loaded file anymore. That effect could be changed by exchanging src/ld65/o65.c:1391 with src/ld65/o65.c:1394 but doing so broke the drivers again :-((

3ef184bdd6 Corrected the default upper limits of some mouse drivers' bounding box. 
The upper limits need to be one less than the screen sizes because the minimum co-ordinate is zero instead of one.

1c73fa0a00 Moved .PHONY below definitions it refers to. 
I must admit that I don't understand why but obviously it is necessary to place .PHONY below the definition of variables it refers to - although those variables are recursively expanded ones! Not doing so made libsrc/Makefile build only three target libraries.

3f0af9b241 Have src/Makefile and libsrc/Make use disjoint work directories. 
Building the clean target in src or libsrc should only delete stuff created by the make in those directories. Having both separated allows the Travis CI build to replace the native binaries with cross built binaries while keeping everything else.

44ccb27549 Changed Makefile.inc handling. 
It seems more appropriate to trigger the inclusion of Makefile.inc via $TARGET (instead of $SRCDIR). This is btw. more consistent with extzp.s inclusion which is triggered via $TARGET too.

d001a6f1a0 Have _heapmaxavail() work as advertised. 
The cc65 doc explicitly states that the return value of _heapmaxavail() can be used as parameter of malloc(). To actually allow for that the size of HEAP_ADMIN_SPACE has to be substracted from the raw size of the largest free heap block.

b477023783 Turn off mouse polling interrupt if the mouse hasn't been moved for 
some time. Turn it back on when the mouse is moved again.
Since the polling interrupt runs at a rather high frequency (1kHz),
this saves many processor cycles when the mouse is inactive.

4065cb1983 Harmonized interface between mouse drivers and callbacks. 
The Apple2 doesn't have sprites so the Apple2 mouse callbacks place a special character on the text screen to indicate the mouse position. In order to support the necessary character removing and redrawing the Apple2 mouse driver called the Apple2 mouse callbacks in an "unusual way". So far so (sort of) good.

However the upcoming Atari mouse driver aims to support both "sprite-type" mouse callbacks as well as "text-char-type" mouse callbacks. Therefore the interface between mouse drivers and callbacks needs to be extended to allow the mouse callbacks to hide their different types from the mouse driver.

The nature of this change can be seen best by looking at the Apple2 file modifications. The CBM drivers and callbacks (at least the current ones) don't benefit from this change.

1a4d804a5f Added cursor-flags initiation. 
The CBM510 runs programs in a non-system memory bank. It has its own zero page. Some things are copied from the system zero page; but, the cursor flags weren't copied. So, the cursor always blinked. That bug sometimes left cursor ghosts (reversed spaces) at the end of lines.

7ebaec1802 Don't save and restore the zero page locations used. 
Saves 19 bytes code (in the exe file) and reduces memory footprint
of the program by 45 bytes (code & bss).

e63bf1cde1 Used a library-reference method to calibrate lightpen drivers. 
The mouse reference is a pointer.  If it's NULL, the driver uses a default.  If it's non-NULL, then it points to a function that the driver can call.  That function will adjust the driver's calibration value.  It could ask the user to adjust the pen; or, it could read a file that holds a value from a previous calibration.

Application writers can choose how it's done: a function that's provided by the library, a custom function, or nothing.

Originally I used the usual variables (like $(CC) and $(CFLAGS) ) but after
all this doesn't make sense as any predefined values and/or user defined
settings can only be wrong.

Occasionally dynamically drivers suffer from not being to refer to
content in the C library. Therefore I added a mechanism to allow
a C library for a certian target to define a symbol that will be
handed over to dynamic drivers for that target. Then the drivers
can use their refernce to that symbol to access content in the C
library.

7024e2789d Explicitly set search paths for libraries build. 
The libraries build is prepared to work with binaries not part of the current
working tree. But in this case the default search path surely points to some
other working tree. Even the binaries in this working tree might have been
compiled with non-standard builtin search paths.

Anyway when building the libraries we want always to use the headers from
the current working tree. Therefore we want to set them explicitly. Instead
of setting all in all five paths on the command lines of ca65, cc65 and ld65 I
opted to just set the single environment variable.

The mouse driver source code in question was removed two years
ago with commit 6cbbe66c87.
It seems however desirable to have it around visible in the source

98c47d1877 Introduced target 'atarixl'. 
The target 'atarixl' is to be used for Atari XL (and better) machines.
It will disable the OS ROM and enable the Shadow RAM available on
those machine.

Note: This commit is only the inital step towards for this goal that just
replicates the target 'atari' as a starting point!

55f9e6ac25 Added 'sim6502' and 'sim65C02' targets. 
The targets allow to run cc65 programs in the sim65 exection
einvironment. As there are no "real" i/o facilities there's no
need for header files. Paravirtualized entry points are mapped
to $FFF0 ff. There's a large cc65 progam area from $0200-$FFEF.

The binary format includes a one-byte header indicating the required
execution environment: The value 0 means 6502 and the value 1
means 65C02. The load adress for the binary is fixed to $0200.

Note: Running sim65C02 programs currently doesn't work bcause
sim65 doesn't actually implement 65C02 opcodes.

00bb0f9704 Hack: Changed TARGET order to have apple2enh.lib available for convert.system. 
There's a quite special case of a targetutil for the TARGET geos-apple having to be
built as TARGET apple2enh binary. We can't just add a dependency to ../lib/apple2enhlib
because the TARGETs are built in individual make instances (because of vpath).

Doing that the "right way" would be _very_ complicated and would turn the Makefiles way
less readable. Therefore I decided to solve that by just reordering the TARGETs. Surely
this won't work if i.e. 'make geos-apple' is entered on a clean system. But still I consider
it appropriate.

I ordered the TARGETs btw so that they are more in an alphabetical order...

717121a7cf Removed reference to CC65_HOME. 
Now that we're pretty much independent from CC65_HOME
it doesn't make sense anymore to look for it in the Makefiles.

So rather dynamically check if there are "local" binaries in the
../bin directory. If there are "local" binaries use them - and
otherwise rely on "installed" binaries found in the path.

eadd7c7ade Patch by Greg King: The Oric Atmos graphics driver tries to be both a 
black-and-white driver and a color-palette driver, at the same time.  That
cannot work on the Oric's architecture.  This patch makes it be only a
black-and-white driver.

46f1085e2d Fixed several aspects of the GEOS CONIO implementation: 
- cputc was drawing at the wrong position, therefore one line had to be removed as a workaround.
- chline, cvline were drawing one pixel to large lines.
- cclear was drawing an in both directions one pixel to big rect.
- the cursor was drawn at wrong times at wrong places in a wrong size.

c91e9f4f06 On Cywin with its (too) expensive fork() this change cuts down minimal re-build times from nearly 2 minutes to approx. 6 seconds. Additionally it looks in all directories in the first list for "override" files, not just in one.

272b8e7185 I wasn't aware that the unit numbers in the ProDOS device list contain device type identifiers in the low nibble. So if we can't use the device list entries as-is we can as well present the high nibble as low nibble to the user thus providing more meaningful device numbers.

942c0b6b2f Choose another way to fix the issue from r5804: When parsing the directory 
name, add a file mask, so the result is "$0:*" or similar. When specified like

975a06c2ee Rewrote tgi_load_driver in assembler and fixed a possible memory leak when 
doing so. Changed the behaviour in case a driver is already loaded: Since the
library cannot know if this driver was linked statically or loaded
dynamically, an already installed driver is considered an error. It must be
removed before calling tgi_load_driver.

ffc06fcea3 Apple GEOS reserves beside the main app area at $4000-$C000 a secondary app area at $0C00-$2000. While it was an elegant idea to use that secondary area for overlays at the end of the day those 5 kB are just too small. So now overlays go at the end of the main area (as with GEOS 64/128). 
However the stack (usually 1 kB) can be securely placed in the secondary area without effort from the side of the developer. The rest of the secondary area (usually 4 kB) is made available to the developer as (uninitialized) 'EXTBSS'.

fb7d8a7c37 My recent decision to reuse the character specification table from the base target was based on the fact that CBM GEOS used a copy of the CBM character specification table for the last ten years. 
However now I understand that CBM GEOS does _not_ use PETSCII so the CBM character specification table doesn't make sense at all. After all this is very plausible because GEOS wants to enable the user to share his files across GEOS variants - so we can share the character specification table too.

6411cc66c1 Defining C constants here doesn't seem to make sense as they are defined already in individual assembler files based on official jumptable entries. 
As the disk driver jumptable entries don't seem to be published otherwise I didn't delete the definitions but moved the '_' to the end marking them as "secondary" to the ones in the main jumptable.

129d3bf872 - The address given for GetSerialNumber in the "Hitchhiker's Guide To GEOS" is obviously wrong: $4b38. 
- According to the "Hitchhiker's Guide To GEOS" GetSerialNumber returns a string on Apple GEOS (in contrast to a number on CBM GEOS).
Given both facts and that the API is presumably not important at all it seems reasonable to just go without it on Apple GEOS.

0c69d4866c The cc65 library build system is designed to call sub-makes in direct sub-directories of 'libsrc' only (meaning that sub-sub-directories are not supported). The GEOSLib source files however are organized in sub-directories of the 'libsrc/geos-cbm'. This mismatch was up to now handled by replicating the cc65 library build system functionality to allow for individal sub-makes in each 'libsrc/geos-cbm' sub-directory. This is unnecessarily hard understand and causes additional maintainance effort. 
Now the whole GEOSLib is built in a single make instance running in 'libsrc/geos-cbm' - which is just what the cc65 library build system can handle. The 'libsrc/geos-cbm' sub-directories still contain Makefiles. However those files only define the set of object files to create from their sub-directory and get included into the 'libsrc/geos-cbm' Makefile.

d810ed97d2 Redesigned GEOS VLIR linking: 
- No more post-linking with resource compiler, rather ld65 directly creates the VLIR CVT file.
- No more dynamic linker config creation, rather the built-in 'geos' config is usable both for SEQ CVT and VLIR CVT files.

ToDos:
- Have ld65 accept alignment to $FD.
- Adjust docs / samples.
