ec06e9a670 When replacing a node in SimplifyDemandedBits, if the old node used any 
single-use nodes, they will be dead soon.  Make sure to remove them before
processing other nodes.  This implements CodeGen/X86/shl_elim.ll

895c4ab564 Fold (x << c1)>> c2 into a single shift if the bits shifted out aren't used. 
This compiles:
int baz(long long a) { return (short)(((int)(a >>24)) >> 9); }

into:

on PPC, instead of:

        srwi r2, r2, 9

GCC produces:

20b0abc24f Copy coalescing change to prevent a physical register from being pin to a 
long live interval that has low usage density.
1. Change order of coalescing to join physical registers with virtual
   registers first before virtual register intervals become too long.
2. Check size and usage density to determine if it's worthwhile to join.
3. If joining is aborted, assign virtual register live interval allocation
   preference field to the physical register.
4. Register allocator should try to allocate to the preferred register
   first (if available) to create identify moves that can be eliminated.

95a5e0507e SIGN_EXTEND_INREG does not demand its top bits. Give SimplifyDemandedBits 
a chance to hack on it.  This compiles:

18feb92e91 merge several fields in GlobalValue to use the same word, move CallingConv 
field into SubclassData in Value.  This shrinks GlobalVAlue from 48->40
bytes, Function from 88->76, and GlobalVariable from 76->68.  This trims
4640 bytes off my testcase, reading a bc file without materializing any
functions.

f8dfef7437 The (negative) offset from a SymbolTableListTraits-using ilist to its container 
object is always constant.  As such, evaluate it at compile time instead of storing
it as an ivar in SymbolTableListTraits.  This shrinks every SymbolTableListTraits
ilist by a word, shrinking BasicBlock from 44->40 bytes, Function from 96->88 bytes,
and Module from 60->52 bytes.

17fcdd5e1b Refactor SymbolTableListTraits to only have a single pointer in it, instead 
of two.  This shrinkifies Function by 8 bytes (104->96) and Module by 8
bytes (68->60).  On a testcase of mine, this reduces the memory used to
read a module header from 565680b to 561024, a little over 4K.

22114c319a Before assuming that the original code didn't work for Athlon64, the person who 
replaced it with a FIXME should have determined what did work.  Then he would have
realized that the code was in fact correct, and would have avoided breaking it.

Don't assert everytime an intrinsic name isn't recognized. Instead, make
the assert optional when callin getIntrinsicID(). This allows the assembler
to handle invalid intrinsic names gracefully.

This sinks the two stores in this example into a single store in cond_next.  In this

c5494af8a9 Now that codegen prepare isn't defeating me, I can finally fix what I set 
out to do! :)

This fixes a problem where LSR would insert a bunch of code into each MBB
that uses a particular subexpression (e.g. IV+base+C).  The problem is that
this code cannot be CSE'd back together if inserted into different blocks.

This patch changes LSR to attempt to insert a single copy of this code and
share it, allowing codegenprepare to duplicate the code if it can be sunk
into various addressing modes.  On CodeGen/ARM/lsr-code-insertion.ll,
for example, this gives us code like:

        add r8, r0, r5
        str r6, [r8, #+4]
..
        ble LBB1_4      @cond_next
LBB1_3: @cond_true
        str r10, [r8, #+4]

dd77df3cbc Completely rewrite addressing-mode related sinking of code. In particular, 
this fixes problems where codegenprepare would sink expressions into load/stores
that are not valid, and fixes cases where it would miss important valid ones.

This fixes several serious codesize and perf issues, particularly on targets
with complex addressing modes like arm and x86.  For example, now we compile
CodeGen/X86/isel-sink.ll to:

69f80a63a2 Provide support for intrinsics that lower themselves to a function body. 
This can happen for intrinsics that are overloaded.  In such cases it is
necessary to emit a function prototype before the body of the function
that calls the intrinsic and to ensure we don't emit it multiple times.

3a508c94a6 the result of an inline asm copy can be an arbitrary VT that the register 
class supports.  In the case of vectors, this means we often get the wrong
type (e.g. we get v4f32 instead of v8i16).  Make sure to convert the vector
result to the right type.  This fixes CodeGen/X86/2007-04-11-InlineAsmVectorResult.ll

947aa7de67 Teach sys::Path how to recognize different kinds of object files for ELF 
and Mach-O systems. Additionally, correct the Mach-O logic code to look at
byte 12 not byte 15. Hopefully this fixes the llvm-ld warning on Darwin.

f4b1818728 Simplify SROA conversion to integer in some ways, make it more general in others. 
We now tolerate small amounts of undefined behavior, better emulating what
would happen if the transaction actually occurred in memory.  This fixes
SingleSource/UnitTests/2007-04-10-BitfieldTest.c on PPC, at least until
Devang gets a chance to fix the CFE from doing undefined things with bitfields :)

0f65cad57f move a bunch of register constraints from being handled by 
getRegClassForInlineAsmConstraint to being handled by
getRegForInlineAsmConstraint.  This allows us to let the llvm register allocator
allocate, which gives us better code.  For example, X86/2007-01-29-InlineAsm-ir.ll

39a6a36c5a Fix a bug that caused alignment information to occasionally get stripped off 
of an allocation instruction when writing to bytecode.

9878d6ae3a rearchitect the registration mechanism used by the command line option stuff. 
This dramatically reduce the amount of memory allocated by the commandline stuff
at static init time, changing it to build local data structures when ParseCommandLineOptions
is called.  In a dummy empty program that links some llvm libraries, this reduces
the number of malloc'd bytes from 4864 to 3360 on entry to main.  Most of that
memory is now allocated by non-commandline related stuff.

c9dc114578 1. Insert custom lowering hooks for ISD::ROTR and ISD::ROTL. 
2. Help DAGCombiner recognize zero/sign/any-extended versions of ROTR and ROTL
patterns. This was motivated by the X86/rotate.ll testcase, which should now
generate code for other platforms (and soon-to-come platforms.) Rewrote code
slightly to make it easier to read.

1ebd89eb6b Pass the type of the store access, not the type of the store, into the 
target hook.  This allows us to codegen a loop as:

instead of:

This looks the same, but has one fewer induction variable (and therefore,
one fewer register) live in the loop.

aa43e9f73b Fix a bug which caused us to never be able to use signed comparisons for 
equality comparisons of a constant.  This allows us to codegen the 'sintzero'
loop in PR1288 as:

d9c3a0d7cc Various passes before isel split edges and do other CFG-restructuring changes. 
isel has its own particular features that it wants in the CFG, in order to
reduce the number of times a constant is computed, etc.  Make sure that we
clean up the CFG before doing any other things for isel.  Doing so can
dramatically reduce the number of split edges and reduce the number of
places that constants get computed.  For example, this shrinks
CodeGen/Generic/phi-immediate-factoring.ll from 44 to 37 instructions on X86,
and from 21 to 17 MBB's in the output.  This is primarily a code size win,
not a performance win.

This implements CodeGen/Generic/phi-immediate-factoring.ll and PR1296.

1437a09765 For PR1297: 
Implement "actual" argument types for the Intrinsic member functions. This
involves changing the getName, getType, and getDeclaration methods to have
optional parameters for the actual types. These are necessary in order for
the type/name to be constructed properly for overloaded intrinsics. Only
the caller knows the actual argument types desired.

559d77afb3 For PR1297: 
1. Clear up confusion between "GotBits" and "ExpectBits". GotBits is the
   type actually provided. ExpectedBits is the type expected for the
   intrinsics. Before this patch, it was reversed!
2. Implement checks for overloaded intrinsics. This involves computing the
   suffix expected and making sure the suffix matches the function name. It
   also includes some intrinsic-specific checks such as ensuring that the
   bswap parameter and result are the same width and an even number of bytes.
