a204ef3168 Refactor GCOV's six constructor arguments into a struct with a getter that
constructs default arguments. It can now take default arguments from
cl::opt'ions. Add a new -default-gcov-version=... option, and actually test it!

Sink the reverse-order of the version into GCOVProfiling, hiding it from our
users.

14891447ff Update debug info test cases with empty SplitDebugFilename field.
This could be 'null' or the empty string, DIDescriptor::getStringField
coalesces the two cases anyway so it's just a matter of legible/efficient
representation.

The change in behavior of the DICompileUnit::get* functions could be
subsumed by the full verification check - but ideally that should just be an
assertion if we could front-load the actual debug info metadata failure paths.

b6f4872d29 ARM cost model: Increase the cost for vector casts that use the stack
Increase the cost of v8/v16-i8 to v8/v16-i32 casts and truncates as the backend
currently lowers those using stack accesses.

This was responsible for a significant degradation on
MultiSource/Benchmarks/Trimaran/enc-pc1/enc-pc1
where we vectorize one loop to a vector factor of 16. After this patch we select
a vector factor of 4 which will generate reasonable code.

2ee69f1be6 Remove the assert()'s from the LLVMCreateDisasmCPU() library API and just
return 0 to indicate failure to create the disassembler. A library routine
should not assert and just let the caller handler the error. For example
darwin's otool(1) will simply print an error if it ends up using a library
that is not configured for a target it wants:

% otool -tv ViewController.o
ViewController.o:
(__TEXT,__text) section
can't create arm llvm disassembler

This is much better than an abort which appears as a crash to the user or
even the assert when using a Debug+Asserts built library:

Assertion failed: (MAI && "Unable to create target asm info!"), function LLVMCreateDisasmCPU, file /Volumes/SandBox/llvm/lib/MC/MCDisassembler/Disassembler.cpp, line 47.

8f8af529fc Add a doFinalization method to the DataLayout pass.
This pass is meant to be immutable, however it holds mutable state to cache StructLayouts.
This method will allow the pass manager to clear the mutable state between runs.

Note that unfortunately it is still necessary to have the destructor, even though it does the
same thing as doFinalization. This is because most TargetMachines embed a DataLayout on which
doFinalization isn't run as its never added to the pass manager.

I also didn't think it was necessary to complication things with a deInit method for which
doFinalization and ~DataLayout both call as there's only one field of mutable state. If we had
more fields to finalize i'd have added this.

4d53e7798c Don't reserve R2 on Darwin/PPC
Now that only the register-scavenger version of the CR spilling code remains,
we no longer need the Darwin R2 hack. Darwin can use R0 as a spare register in
any case where the System V ABI uses it (R0 is special architecturally, and so
is reserved under all common ABIs).

A few test cases needed to be updated to reflect the register-allocation changes.

7285e8d98c PPC should always use the register scavenger for CR spilling
This removes the -disable-ppc[32|64]-regscavenger options; the code
that uses the register scavenger has been working well (and has been the default)
for some time, and we don't need options to enable the old (broken) CR spilling code.

67cb638629 LibCallSimplifier: optimize speed for short-lived instances
Nadav reported a performance regression due to the work I did to
merge the library call simplifier into instcombine [1]. The issue
is that a new LibCallSimplifier object is being created whenever
InstCombiner::runOnFunction is called. Every time a LibCallSimplifier
object is used to optimize a call it creates a hash table to map from
a function name to an object that optimizes functions of that name.
For short-lived LibCallSimplifier instances this is quite inefficient.
Especially for cases where no calls are actually simplified.

This patch fixes the issue by dropping the hash table and implementing
an explicit lookup function to correlate the function name to the object
that optimizes functions of that name. This avoids the cost of always
building and destroying the hash table in cases where the LibCallSimplifier
object is short-lived and avoids the cost of building the table when no
simplifications are actually preformed.

On a benchmark containing 100,000 calls where none of them are simplified
I noticed a 30% speedup.  On a benchmark containing 100,000 calls where
all of them are simplified I noticed an 8% speedup.

c0ec8a4f4d Remove support for versioned debug info.
Versioned debug info support has been a burden to maintain & also compromised
current debug info verification by causing test cases testing old debug info to
remain rather than being updated to the latest. It also makes it hard to add or
change the metadata schema by requiring various backwards-compatibility in the
DI* hierarchy.

So it's being removed in preparation for new changes to the schema to tidy up
old/unnecessary fields and add new fields needed for new debug info (well, new
to LLVM at least).

The more surprising part of this is the changes to DI*::Verify - this became
necessary due to the changes to AsmWriter. AsmWriter was relying on the version
test to decide which bits of metadata were actually debug info when printing
the comment annotations. Without the version information the tag numbers were
too common & it would print debug info on random metadata that happened to
start with an integer that matched a tag number. Instead this change makes the
Verify functions more precise (just adding "number of operands" checks - not
type checking those operands yet) & relies on that to decide which metadata is
debug info metadata.

fa785cb22d Disable statistics on Release builds and move tests that depend on -stats.
Summary:
Statistics are still available in Release+Asserts (any +Asserts builds),
and stats can also be turned on with LLVM_ENABLE_STATS.

Move some of the FastISel stats that were moved under DEBUG()
back out of DEBUG(), since stats are disabled across the board now.

Many tests depend on grepping "-stats" output. Move those into
a orig_dir/Stats/. so that they can be marked as unsupported
when building without statistics.

d787c047bc R600/SI: Use source scheduler
This is certainly not the last word on scheduling for this target, but
right now this allows a few apps to run / finish with radeonsi, most
notably UT2004 / Lightsmark. They fail to compile some shaders with the
default scheduler because it ends up trying to spill registers, which
we don't support yet (and which is probably a bad idea in general for
performance if it can be avoided).

NOTE: This is a candidate for the Mesa stable branch.

e36b47e17b Revert r176154 in favor of a better approach.
Code generation makes some basic assumptions about the IR it's been given. In
particular, if there is only one 'invoke' in the function, then that invoke
won't be going away. However, with the advent of the `llvm.donothing' intrinsic,
those invokes may go away. If all of them go away, the landing pad no longer has
any users. This confuses the back-end, which asserts.

This happens with SjLj exceptions, because that's the model that modifies the IR
based on there being invokes, etc. in the function.

Remove any invokes of `llvm.donothing' during SjLj EH preparation. This will
give us a CFG that the back-end won't be confused about. If all of the invokes
in a function are removed, then the SjLj EH prepare pass won't insert the bogus
code the relies upon the invokes being there.

6ffcd5efe1 Rename isEarlierInSameTrace to isUsefulDominator.
In very rare cases caused by irreducible control flow, the dominating
block can have the same trace head without actually being part of the
trace.

As long as such a dominator still has valid instruction depths, it is OK
to use it for computing instruction depths.

Rename the function to avoid lying, and add a check that instruction
depths are computed for the dominator.

3de61b4c01 Debug Info: store the files and directories for each compile unit.
We now emit a line table for each compile unit. To reduce the prologue size
of each line table, the files and directories used by each compile unit are
stored in std::map<unsigned, std::vector< > > instead of std::vector< >.

The prologue for a lto'ed image can be as big as 93K. Duplicating 93K for each
compile unit causes a huge increase of debug info. With this patch, each
prologue will only emit the files required by the compile unit.

Volatile loads and stores need to be preserved even if the language

Additionally, this is the only way I know of with llvm to write to the

This patch adds many more functions to the target library information.
All of the functions being added were discovered while doing the migration
of the simplify-libcalls attribute annotation functionality to the

will query TLI to determine if a function should be annotated or not.

62f38ca141 R600: initial scheduler code
This is a skeleton for a pre-RA MachineInstr scheduler strategy. Currently
it only tries to expose more parallelism for ALU instructions (this also
makes the distribution of GPR channels more uniform and increases the
chances of ALU instructions to be packed together in a single VLIW group).
Also it tries to reduce clause switching by grouping instruction of the
same kind (ALU/FETCH/CF) together.

Vincent Lejeune:
 - Support for VLIW4 Slot assignement
 - Recomputation of ScheduleDAG to get more parallelism opportunities

Tom Stellard:
 - Fix assertion failure when trying to determine an instruction's slot
   based on its destination register's class
 - Fix some compiler warnings

Vincent Lejeune: [v2]
 - Remove recomputation of ScheduleDAG (will be provided in a later patch)
 - Improve estimation of an ALU clause size so that heuristic does not emit cf
 instructions at the wrong position.
 - Make schedule heuristic smarter using SUnit Depth
 - Take constant read limitations into account

Vincent Lejeune: [v3]
 - Fix some uninitialized values in ConstPair
 - Add asserts to ensure an ALU slot is always populated

6c4265a541 The current X86 NOP padding uses one long NOP followed by the remainder in
one-byte NOPs. If the processor actually executes those NOPs, as it sometimes
does with aligned bundling, this can have a performance impact. From my
micro-benchmarks run on my one machine, a 15-byte NOP followed by twelve
one-byte NOPs is about 20% worse than a 15 followed by a 12. This patch
changes NOP emission to emit as many 15-byte (the maximum) as possible followed
by at most one shorter NOP.

  int i, j, k, val;
  for (i=0; i<rows; i++) {
    for (j=0; j<cols; j++) {
      val = 0;
      for (k=0; k<cols; k++) {
        val += m1[i][k] * m2[k][j];
      }
      m3[i][j] = val;
    }
  }
  return(m3);
}

Taken from the test-suite benchmark Shootout.

We estimate the cost of the multiply to be 2 while we generate 9 instructions
for it and end up being quite a bit slower than the scalar version (48% on my
machine).

Also, properly differentiate between avx1 and avx2. On avx-1 we still split the
vector into 2 128bits and handle the subvector muls like above with 9
instructions.
Only on avx-2 will we have a cost of 9 for v4i64.

I changed the test case in test/Transforms/LoopVectorize/X86/avx1.ll to use an
add instead of a mul because with a mul we now no longer vectorize. I did
verify that the mul would be indeed more expensive when vectorized with 3
kernels:

for (i ...)
   r += a[i] * 3;
for (i ...)
  m1[i] = m1[i] * 3; // This matches the test case in avx1.ll
and a matrix multiply.

In each case the vectorized version was considerably slower.

5290baacb8 PR14448 - prevent the loop vectorizer from vectorizing the same loop twice.
The LoopVectorizer often runs multiple times on the same function due to inlining.
When this happens the loop vectorizer often vectorizes the same loops multiple times, increasing code size and adding unneeded branches.
With this patch, the vectorizer during vectorization puts metadata on scalar loops and marks them as 'already vectorized' so that it knows to ignore them when it sees them a second time.

PR14448.

bf32b7f844 Instructions schedulers should report correct height/depth.
We avoided computing DAG height/depth during Node printing because it
shouldn't depend on an otherwise valid DAG. But this has become far
too annoying for the common case of a valid DAG where we want to see
valid values. If doing the computation on-the-fly turns out to be a
problem in practice, then I'll add a mode to the diagnostics to only
force it when we're likely to have a valid DAG, otherwise explicitly
print INVALID instead of bogus numbers. For now, just go for it all
the time.

SelectionDAGIsel::LowerArguments needs a function, not a basic block. So it

The instcombine recognized pattern looks like:
a = b * c
d = a +/- Cst
or

d = Cst +/- a

When creating the new operands for fadd or fsub instruction following the related fmul, the first operand was created with the second original operand (M0 was created with C1) and the second with the first (M1 with Opnd0).

The fix consists in creating the new operands with the appropriate original operand, i.e., M0 with Opnd0 and M1 with C1.

d2eaf45af4 Fix a problem in alias analysis. It is about the misinterpretation of "Object".
This problem is exposed by r171325 which is already reverted. It is rather
hard to fabricate a testing case without it.

r171325 should *NOT* be resurrected as it has a potential problem although
this problem dosen't directly contribute to PR14988.

The bug is tracked by:
  - rdar://13063553, and
  - http://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=14988

Thank Arnold for coming up a better solution to this problem. After
comparing this solution and my original proposal, I decided to ditch mine.
