18b475f954 LLVM combines the offset mode of A8.6.199 A1 & A2 into STRBT.
The insufficient encoding information of the combined instruction confuses the decoder wrt
UQADD16. Add extra logic to recover from that.

Fixed an assert reported by Sean Callanan

5d96e5a1cc Make physreg coalescing independent on the number of uses of the virtual register.
The damage done by physreg coalescing only depends on the number of instructions
the extended physreg live range covers. This fixes PR9438.

The heuristic is still luck-based, and physreg coalescing really should be
disabled completely. We need a register allocator with better hinting support
before that is possible.

Convert a test to FileCheck and force spilling by inserting an extra call. The
previous spilling behavior was dependent on misguided physreg coalescing
decisions.

dda386c44d Delete a test case that is very sensitive to coalescer behavior.
The test is derived from an old miscompilation of
MultiSource/Benchmarks/VersaBench/8b10b which is run regularly, so we are not
losing coverage.

b2fd770136 Add support to scalar replacement for partial vector accesses of an alloca, e.g.
a union of a float, <2 x float>, and <4 x float>. This mostly comes up with the
use of vector intrinsics, especially in NEON when programmers know the layout of
the register file. This enables codegen to eliminate a lot of the subregister
traffic it would otherwise generate.

This commit only enables this for a small number of floating-point cases, but a
lot more integer cases. I assume this is okay for all ports, but I did not do
extensive testing of the quality of code involving i512 vectors and the like. If
there is a use case where this generates worse code than before, let me know and
we can scale it back.

This fixes <rdar://problem/9036264>.

2adc5b6a17 PR9420; an instruction before an unreachable is guaranteed not to have any
reachable uses, but there still might be uses in dead blocks. Use the
standard solution of replacing all the uses with undef. This is
a rare case because it's very sensitive to phase ordering in SimplifyCFG.

091b1e3c74 change instcombine to not turn a call to non-varargs bitcast of
function prototype into a call to a varargs prototype. We do
allow the xform if we have a definition, but otherwise we don't
want to risk that we're changing the abi in a subtle way. On
X86-64, for example, varargs require passing stuff in %al.

e573fb3255 More fcopysign correctness and performance fix.
The previous codegen for the slow path (when values are in VFP / NEON
registers) was incorrect if the source is NaN.

The new codegen uses NEON vbsl instruction to copy the sign bit. e.g.
        vmov.i32        d1, #0x80000000
        vbsl    d1, d2, d0
If NEON is not available, it uses integer instructions to copy the sign bit.

68e6beeccc Revert r124611 - "Keep track of incoming argument's location while emitting LiveIns."
In other words, do not keep track of argument's location. The debugger (gdb) is not prepared to see line table entries for arguments. For the debugger, "second" line table entry marks beginning of function body.
This requires some coordination with debugger to get this working.

8d7285d0e5 The signed version of our "magic number" computation for the integer approximation
of a constant had a minor typo introduced when copying it from the book, which
caused it to favor negative approximations over positive approximations in many
cases. Positive approximations require fewer operations beyond the multiplication.

In the case of division by 3, we still generate code that is a single instruction
larger than GCC's code.

80e8b506b8 rewrite the memset_pattern pattern generation stuff to accept any 2/4/8/16-byte
constant, including globals. This makes us generate much more "pretty" pattern
globals as well because it doesn't break it down to an array of bytes all the
time.

This enables us to handle stores of relocatable globals. This kicks in about
48 times in 254.gap, giving us stuff like this:

@.memset_pattern40 = internal constant [2 x %struct.TypHeader* (%struct.TypHeader*, %struct.TypHeader*)*] [%struct.TypHeader* (%struct.TypHeader*, %struct
.TypHeader*)* @IsFalse, %struct.TypHeader* (%struct.TypHeader*, %struct.TypHeader*)* @IsFalse], align 16

...
  call void @memset_pattern16(i8* %scevgep5859, i8* bitcast ([2 x %struct.TypHeader* (%struct.TypHeader*, %struct.TypHeader*)*]* @.memset_pattern40 to i8*
), i64 %tmp75) nounwind

0a9481f44f Enhance ComputeMaskedBits to know that aligned frameindexes
have their low bits set to zero. This allows us to optimize
out explicit stack alignment code like in stack-align.ll:test4 when
it is redundant.

Doing this causes the code generator to start turning FI+cst into
FI|cst all over the place, which is general goodness (that is the
canonical form) except that various pieces of the code generator
don't handle OR aggressively. Fix this by introducing a new
SelectionDAG::isBaseWithConstantOffset predicate, and using it
in places that are looking for ADD(X,CST). The ARM backend in
particular was missing a lot of addressing mode folding opportunities
around OR.

This patch added a test to reproduce the problem and a check that the

1021236c74 Per discussion with Dan G, inbounds geps *certainly* can have
unsigned overflow (e.g. "gep P, -1"), and while they can have
signed wrap in theoretical situations, modelling an AddRec as
not having signed wrap is going enough for any case we can
think of today. In the future if this isn't enough, we can
revisit this. Modeling them as having NUW isn't causing any
known problems either FWIW.

This fails to copy the sign of -0.0f because it's lost during the float to int
conversion. Also, it's sub-optimal when the inputs are in GPR registers.

Now it uses integer and + or operations when it's profitable. And it's correct!

6cdf2ea98e implement the first part of PR8882: when lowering an inbounds
gep to explicit addressing, we know that none of the intermediate
computation overflows.

This could use review: it seems that the shifts certainly wouldn't
overflow, but could the intermediate adds overflow if there is a
negative index?

Previously the testcase would instcombine to:

define i1 @test(i64 %i) {
  %p1.idx.mask = and i64 %i, 4611686018427387903
  %cmp = icmp eq i64 %p1.idx.mask, 1000
  ret i1 %cmp
}

now we get:

define i1 @test(i64 %i) {
  %cmp = icmp eq i64 %i, 1000
  ret i1 %cmp
}

7a6aa1a391 Enhance a bunch of transformations in instcombine to start generating
exact/nsw/nuw shifts and have instcombine infer them when it can prove

Also, a variety of refactoring to use the new patternmatch logic thrown
in for good luck. I believe that this takes care of a bunch of related
code quality issues attached to PR8862.

b20c0b5092 Enhance the "compare with shift" and "compare with div"
optimizations to be much more aggressive in the face of
exact/nsw/nuw div and shifts. For example, these (which
are the same except the first is 'exact' sdiv:

define i1 @sdiv_icmp4_exact(i64 %X) nounwind {
  %A = sdiv exact i64 %X, -5   ; X/-5 == 0 --> x == 0
  %B = icmp eq i64 %A, 0
  ret i1 %B
}

define i1 @sdiv_icmp4(i64 %X) nounwind {
  %A = sdiv i64 %X, -5   ; X/-5 == 0 --> x == 0
  %B = icmp eq i64 %A, 0
  ret i1 %B
}

compile down to:

define i1 @sdiv_icmp4_exact(i64 %X) nounwind {
  %1 = icmp eq i64 %X, 0
  ret i1 %1
}

define i1 @sdiv_icmp4(i64 %X) nounwind {
  %X.off = add i64 %X, 4
  %1 = icmp ult i64 %X.off, 9
  ret i1 %1
}

This happens when you do something like:
  (ptr1-ptr2) == 42

where the pointers are pointers to non-unit types.
