aaf510c932 Do not shrink wrap live interval in a mbb if it's livein any of its successor blocks. The mbb can be revisited again after all of the successors are processed.

78dfef771b If val# def is ~0U, meaning it's defined by a PHI, and it's previously split, spill before the barrier because it's impossible to determine if all the defs are spilled in the same spill slot.

4047f4a0b4 Fix translateX86CC: if SetCCOpcode is SETULE and
LHS is a foldable load, then LHS and RHS are swapped
and SetCCOpcode is changed to SETUGT.  But the later
code is expecting operands to be the wrong way round
for SETUGT, but they are not in this case, resulting
in an inverted compare.  The solution is to move the
load normalization before the correction for SETUGT.
This bug was tickled by LegalizeTypes which happened
to legalize the testcase slightly differently to
LegalizeDAG.

4401361a2f Don't create TargetGlobalAddress nodes with offsets that don't fit
in the 32-bit signed offset field of addresses. Even though this
may be intended, some linkers refuse to relocate code where the
relocated address computation overflows.

Also, fix the sign-extension of constant offsets to use the
actual pointer size, rather than the size of the GlobalAddress
node, which may be different, for example on x86-64 where MVT::i32
is used when the address is being fit into the 32-bit displacement
field.

279c22e6da Optimized FCMP_OEQ and FCMP_UNE for x86.
Where previously LLVM might emit code like this:

        ucomisd %xmm1, %xmm0
        setne   %al
        setp    %cl
        orb     %al, %cl
        jne     .LBB4_2

it now emits this:

        ucomisd %xmm1, %xmm0
        jne     .LBB4_2
        jp      .LBB4_2

It has fewer instructions and uses fewer registers, but it does
have more branches. And in the case that this code is followed by
a non-fallthrough edge, it may be followed by a jmp instruction,
resulting in three branch instructions in sequence. Some effort
is made to avoid this situation.

To achieve this, X86ISelLowering.cpp now recognizes FCMP_OEQ and
FCMP_UNE in lowered form, and replace them with code that emits
two branches, except in the case where it would require converting
a fall-through edge to an explicit branch.

Also, X86InstrInfo.cpp's branch analysis and transform code now
knows now to handle blocks with multiple conditional branches. It
uses loops instead of having fixed checks for up to two
instructions. It can now analyze and transform code generated
from FCMP_OEQ and FCMP_UNE.

3afda6e9d1 When the coalescer is doing rematerializing, have it remove
the copy instruction from the instruction list before asking the
target to create the new instruction. This gets the old instruction
out of the way so that it doesn't interfere with the target's
rematerialization code. In the case of x86, this helps it find
more cases where EFLAGS is not live.

Also, in the X86InstrInfo.cpp, teach isSafeToClobberEFLAGS to check
to see if it reached the end of the block after scanning each
instruction, instead of just before. This lets it notice when the
end of the block is only two instructions away, without doing any
additional scanning.

These changes allow rematerialization to clobber EFLAGS in more
cases, for example using xor instead of mov to set the return value
to zero in the included testcase.

01426e1a27 Fix gcc.c-torture/compile/920520-1.c by inserting bitconverts
for strange asm conditions earlier.  In this case, we have a
double being passed in an integer reg class.  Convert to like
sized integer register so that we allocate the right number 
for the class (two i32's for the f64 in this case).

2a0b96c2c7 Reapply r57699 with a fix to not crash on asms with multiple results. Unlike
the previous patch this one actually passes make check.

"Fix PR2356 on PowerPC: if we have an input and output that are tied together
that have different sizes (e.g. i32 and i64) make sure to reserve registers for
the bigger operand."

6520e20e4f Teach DAGCombine to fold constant offsets into GlobalAddress nodes,
and add a TargetLowering hook for it to use to determine when this
is legal (i.e. not in PIC mode, etc.)

This allows instruction selection to emit folded constant offsets
in more cases, such as the included testcase, eliminating the need
for explicit arithmetic instructions.

This eliminates the need for the C++ code in X86ISelDAGToDAG.cpp
that attempted to achieve the same effect, but wasn't as effective.

Also, fix handling of offsets in GlobalAddressSDNodes in several
places, including changing GlobalAddressSDNode's offset from
int to int64_t.

The Mips, Alpha, Sparc, and CellSPU targets appear to be
unaware of GlobalAddress offsets currently, so set the hook to
false on those targets.

a9f0cc4ced The Dwarf writer was comparing mangled and unmangled names for C++ code when we
have an unreachable block in a function. This was triggering the assert. This is
a horrid hack to cover this up.

Oh! for a good debug info architecture!

63f97201dc Fun x86 encoding tricks: when adding an immediate value of 128,
use a SUB instruction instead of an ADD, because -128 can be
encoded in an 8-bit signed immediate field, while +128 can't be.
This avoids the need for a 32-bit immediate field in this case.

A similar optimization applies to 64-bit adds with 0x80000000,
with the 32-bit signed immediate field.

To support this, teach tablegen how to handle 64-bit constants.

74feef261a Define patterns for shld and shrd that match immediate
shift counts, and patterns that match dynamic shift counts
when the subtract is obscured by a truncate node.

Add DAGCombiner support for recognizing rotate patterns
when the shift counts are defined by truncate nodes.

Fix and simplify the code for commuting shld and shrd
instructions to work even when the given instruction doesn't
have a parent, and when the caller needs a new instruction.

These changes allow LLVM to use the shld, shrd, rol, and ror
instructions on x86 to replace equivalent code using two
shifts and an or in many more cases.

2276a7bc8e Teach instcombine's visitLoad to scan back several instructions
to find opportunities for store-to-load forwarding or load CSE,
in the same way that visitStore scans back to do DSE. Also, define
a new helper function for testing whether the addresses of two
memory accesses are known to have the same value, and use it in
both visitStore and visitLoad.

These two changes allow instcombine to eliminate loads in code
produced by front-ends that frequently emit obviously redundant
addressing for memory references.

c7e3069bfa Fix the .ll grammar rules to allow any type before an 'i32', not just an
integer type.  Invalid things like 'float 42' are now rejected by the
semantic analysis in the productions not the parser.  This fixes PR2733.

7f04268176 - Add target lowering hooks that specify which setcc conditions are illegal,
i.e. conditions that cannot be checked with a single instruction. For example,
SETONE and SETUEQ on x86.
- Teach legalizer to implement *illegal* setcc as a and / or of a number of
legal setcc nodes. For now, only implement FP conditions. e.g. SETONE is
implemented as SETO & SETNE, SETUEQ is SETUO | SETEQ.
- Move x86 target over.

7b8e96401c When doing the very-late shift-and address-mode optimization,
create a new DAG node to represent the new shift to keep the
DAG consistent, even though it'll almost always be folded into
the address.

If a user of the resulting address has multiple uses, the
nodes may get revisited by a later MatchAddress call, in which
case DAG inconsistencies do matter.

This fixes PR2849.

e563bbc312 Change CALLSEQ_BEGIN and CALLSEQ_END to take TargetConstant's as
parameters instead of raw Constants.  This prevents the constants from
being selected by the isel pass, fixing PR2735.

eb0d6abee3 Remove -disable-fast-isel. Use cl::boolOrDefault with -fast-isel
instead.

So now: -fast-isel or -fast-isel=true enable fast-isel, and
-fast-isel=false disables it. Fast-isel is also on by default
with -fast, and off by default otherwise.

5fac55fafb Allow scalarrepl to treat an all-zero GEP just as bitcast.
This includes not marking a GEP involving a vector as unsafe, but only when it
has all zero indices. This allows scalarrepl to work in a few more cases.

96f945267c Actually run Obj-C++ tests if llvm-gcc supports.
Before there were two problems: (1) configure
turned "obj-c++" into "obj" in the langs line;
(2) the dejagnu library called it objc++ not
obj-c++.
Now the problem is that some of these tests don't
pass!

8c34cd287a rewrite bswap matching to be more general, allowing arbitrary
shifting and masking inside a bswap expr.  This allows it to handle
the cases from PR2842, which involve the intermediate 'or' 
expressions being shifted, not just the input value.

022b21ff7c Fix a bug in the local allocator's liveness computation where it
was setting kill flags on tied uses in two-address instructions.
The kill flags were causing the allocator to think it could
allocate the use and its tied def in different registers.

9f07a290b9 Add a new pass AddReadAttrs which works out which functions
can get the readnone/readonly attributes, and gives them it.
The plan is to remove markmodref (which did the same thing
by querying GlobalsModRef) and delete the analogous

e65d39a42c Teach -callgraph to always print the callgraph (as the
description says it does), not just when -analyze is
used as well.  This means printing to stderr, so adjust
some tests.

91aac1015e Add a bit to mark operands of asm's that conflict
with an earlyclobber operand elsewhere.  Propagate
this bit and the earlyclobber bit through SDISel.
Change linear-scan RA not to allocate regs in a way

81b28ceab6 Improve instcombine's handling of integer min and max in two ways:
- Recognize expressions like "x > -1 ? x : 0" as min/max and turn them
   into expressions like "x < 0 ? 0 : x", which is easily recognizable
   as a min/max operation.
 - Refrain from folding expression like "y/2 < 1" to "y < 2" when the
   comparison is being used as part of a min or max idiom, like
   "y/2 < 1 ? 1 : y/2". In that case, the division has another use, so
   folding doesn't eliminate it, and obfuscates the min/max, making it
   harder to recognize as a min/max operation.

These benefit ScalarEvolution, CodeGen, and anything else that wants to
recognize integer min and max.

fb2bbbe786 Re-enables the new vector select in the bitcode reader, by modifying the
bitcode reader/writer as follows:

- add and use new bitcode FUNC_CODE_INST_VSELECT to handle the llvm
select opcode using either i1 or [N x i1] as the selector.
- retain old BITCODE FUNC_CODE_INST_SELECT in the bitcode reader to
handle select on i1 for backwards compatibility with existing bitcode
files.
- re-enable the vector-select.ll test program.

Also, rename the recently added bitcode opcode FUNC_CODE_INST_VCMP to
FUNC_CODE_INST_CMP2 and make the bitcode writer use it to handle
fcmp/icmp on scalars or vectors. In the bitcode writer, use
FUNC_CODE_INST_CMP for vfcmp/vicmp only. In the bitcode reader, have
FUNC_CODE_INST_CMP handle icmp/fcmp returning bool, for backwards
compatibility with existing bitcode files.

ad7321f58a Teach LSR to optimize away SMAX operations for tripcounts in common
cases.  See the comment above OptimizeSMax for the full story, and
the testcase for an example. This cancels out a pessimization
commonly attributed to indvars, and will allow us to lift some of
the artificial throttles in indvars, rather than add new ones.

8dae138d06 Fix WriteAsOperand to not emit a leading space character. Adjust
its callers to emit a space character before calling it when a
space is needed.

This fixes several spurious whitespace issues in
ScalarEvolution's debug dumps. See the test changes for
examples.

This also fixes odd space-after-tab indentation in the output
for switch statements, and changes calls from being printed like
this:
  call void @foo( i32 %x )
to this:
  call void @foo(i32 %x)

vr2 = OR vr0, vr1
=>
vr2 = OR vr1, vr1   // after coalescing vr0 with vr1

Update the value# of the destination register with the copy instruction if that happens.

4f833d4351 On 64-bit targets, change 32-bit getelementptr indices to be 64-bit
getelementptr indices, inserting an explicit cast if necessary.
This helps expose the sign-extension operation to other optimizations.

vr1024 = extract_subreg vr1025, 1
...
vr1024 = mov8rr AH
If vr1024 is coalesced with AH, the extract_subreg is now illegal since AH does not have a super-reg whose sub-register 1 is AH.

488fbfc69e Make SimplifyDemandedVectorElts simplify vectors with multiple
users, and teach it about shufflevector instructions.

Also, fix a subtle bug in SimplifyDemandedVectorElts'
insertelement code.

99c1a7c9e1 Correct callgraph construction. It has two problems:
(1) code left over from the days of ConstantPointerRef:
if a use of a function is a GlobalValue then that is
not considered a reason to add an edge from the external
node, even though the use may be as an initializer for
an externally visible global!  There might be some point
to this behaviour when the use is by an alias (though the
code predated aliases by some centuries), but I think
PR2782 is a better way of handling that.  (2) If function
F calls function G, and also G is a parameter to the
call, then an F->G edge is not added to the callgraph.
While this doesn't seem to matter much, adding such an
edge makes the callgraph more regular.
In addition, the new code should be faster as well as
simpler.

f72fb679ef Extend the vcmp/fcmp LLVM IR instructions to take vectors as arguments
and, if so, to return a vector of boolean as a result;

Extend the select LLVM IR instruction to allow you to specify a result
type which is a vector of boolean, in which case the result will be an
element-wise selection instead of choosing one vector or the other; and

Update LangRef.html to describe these changes.

fec2c2bf5e When PruneEH turned an invoke into an ordinary
call (thus changing the call site) it didn't
inform the callgraph about this.  But the
call site does matter - as shown by the testcase,
the callgraph become invalid after the inliner
ran (with an edge between two functions simply
missing), resulting in wrong deductions by
GlobalsModRef.

d0c0fae63b Fix for PR2687: Add patterns to match sint_to_fp and fp_to_sint for <2 x
i32>.  This is a little messy, but it works.

We should really get rid of the intrinsics, though, since they map

4a03775777 For whatever the reason, x86 CallingConv::Fast (i.e. fastcc) was not passing scalar arguments in registers. This patch defines a new fastcc CC which is slightly different from the FastCall CC. In addition to passing integer arguments in ECX and EDX, it also specify doubles are passed in 8-byte slots which are 8-byte aligned (instead of 4-byte aligned). This avoids a potential performance hazard where doubles span cacheline boundaries.

c2feb5c262 Remove code that pad number of bytes to pop for X86_FastCall CC. The code doesn't do the "aligning" for Cygwin, Mingw, and Windows. But aligning it on Darwin and Linux breaks gcc compatibility. That ruled out all the platforms we support!

9a036b945c Cleanup GlobalsModRef a bit. When analysing the
callgraph, when one member of a SCC calls another
then the analysis would drop to mod-ref because
there is (usually) no function info for the callee
yet; fix this.  Teach the analysis about function
attributes, in particular the readonly attribute
(which requires being careful about globals).

83c05e5d30 Don't crash when trying to constant fold a vector with some elements that can't
be folded. Instead, fail to fold the entire vector.

We could also return a vector with some elements folded and some not. If anyone
thinks that's a better approach, please speak up!

9440e35b98 Revert the "XFAIL" for the rotate_ops.ll testcase. Instead, mark ISD::ROTR
instructions in CellSPU as "Expand" so that they won't be generated. I added a
"FIXME" so that this hack can be addressed and reverted once ISD::ROTR is
supported in the .td files.

70fcb6bf58 CellSPU doesn't appear to support fully the "ISD::ROTR" operation. The DAG
combiner can now generate ROTR if the backend says that it can handle it. Cell
SPU says this, but gets an error from code gen saying that it can't select
ROTR. I'm xfailing this test until this can be fixed.

a3f8b7a4ce Optimize DAGCombiner's worklist processing. Previously it started
its work by putting all nodes in the worklist, requiring a big
dynamic allocation. Now, DAGCombiner just iterates over the AllNodes
list and maintains a worklist for nodes that are newly created or
need to be revisited. This allows the worklist to stay small in most
cases, so it can be a SmallVector.

This has the side effect of making DAGCombine not miss a folding
opportunity in alloca-align-rounding.ll.

ab6c3bb44d Try approach to moving call address load inside of callseq_start. 22bb31103d Factor out the predicate check code from DAGISelEmitter.cpp
and use it in FastISelEmitter.cpp, and make FastISel
subtarget aware. Among other things, this lets it work
properly on x86 targets that don't have SSE, where it

140be2dfb7 Add support for 8 and 16 bit forms of __sync
builtins on X86.

Change "lock" instructions to be on a separate line.
This is needed to work around a bug in the Darwin

5eca075b74 Rename some GC classes so that their roll will hopefully be clearer.
In particular, Collector was confusing to implementors. Several
thought that this compile-time class was the place to implement
their runtime GC heap. Of course, it doesn't even exist at runtime.
Specifically, the renames are:

  Collector               -> GCStrategy
  CollectorMetadata       -> GCFunctionInfo
  CollectorModuleMetadata -> GCModuleInfo
  CollectorRegistry       -> GCRegistry
  Function::getCollector  -> getGC (setGC, hasGC, clearGC)

Several accessors and nested types have also been renamed to be
consistent. These changes should be obvious.

488dc6732d The pass manager is not able to schedule -loop-deletion -loop-index-split.
The loop-deletion pass does not preserve dom frontier, which is required by
loop-index-split. When the PM checks dom frontier for loop-index-split, it has
already verified that lcssa is availalble. However, new dom frontier forces new
loop pass manager, which does not  have lcssa yet.

The PM should recheck availability of required analysis passes in such cases.

e3d920699c Re-enable elimination of unnecessary SUBREG_TO_REG instructions in
LowerSubregs, and fix an x86-64 isel bug that this exposed.

SUBREG_TO_REG for x86-64 implicit zero extension is only safe for
isel to generate when the source is known to always have zeros in
the high 32 bits. The EXTRACT_SUBREG instruction does not clear
the high 32 bits.

f5e25f32c7 Fix PR2355: bug in ChangeCompareStride. When the loop termination compare is the only use of its iv stride, the stride can be eliminated by moving it to another stride. If the scale is negative, swap the predicate instead of using a inverse predicate.

b42a626122 PR2621: Improvements to the SCEV AddRec binomial expansion. This
version uses a new algorithm for evaluating the binomial coefficients 
which is significantly more efficient for AddRecs of more than 2 terms 
(see the comments in the code for details on how the algorithm works).  
It also fixes some bugs: it removes the arbitrary length restriction for 
AddRecs, it fixes the silent generation of incorrect code for AddRecs 
which require a wide calculation width, and it fixes an issue where we 
were incorrectly truncating the iteration count too far when evaluating 
an AddRec expression narrower than the induction variable.

There are still a few related issues I know of: I think there's 
still an issue with the SCEVExpander expansion of AddRec in terms of
the width of the induction variable used.  The hack to avoid generating 
too-wide integers shouldn't be necessary; instead, the callers should be 
considering the cost of the expansion before expanding it (in addition 
to not expanding too-wide integers, we might not want to expand 
expressions that are really expensive, especially when optimizing for 
size; calculating an length-17 32-bit AddRec currently generates about 250 
instructions of straight-line code on X86).  Also, for long 32-bit 
AddRecs on X86, CodeGen really sucks at scheduling the code.  I'm planning on 
filing follow-up PRs for these issues.

This allows it to work correctly on nested aggregate values.
This fixes PR2625.

11ba3b1af6 Reapply r54147 with a constraint to only use the 8-bit
subreg form on x86-64, to avoid the problem with x86-32
having GPRs that don't have 8-bit subregs.

Also, change several 16-bit instructions to use 
equivalent 32-bit instructions. These have a smaller
encoding and avoid partial-register updates.

1fbffe0cef Another SCEV issue from PR2607; essentially the same issue, but this
time applying to the implicit comparison in smin expressions. The 
correct way to transform an inequality into the opposite 
inequality, either signed or unsigned, is with a not expression.

I looked through the SCEV code, and I don't think there are any more 
occurrences of this issue.

068acc3caa Fix for PR2607: SCEV miscomputing the loop count for loops with an
SGT exit condition.  Essentially, the correct way to flip an inequality 
in 2's complement is the not operator, not the negation operator.  
That said, the difference only affects cases involving INT_MIN.

Also, enhance the pre-test search logic to be a bit smarter about 
inequalities flipped with a not operator, so it can eliminate the smax 
from the iteration count for simple loops.

477f5a2f11 Restructure ArgumentPromotion a bit. Instead of just having a single boolean
that says "unconditional loads from this argument are safe", we now keep track
of the safety per set of indices from which loads happen. This prevents
ArgPromotion from promoting loads that aren't really valid. As an added effect,
this will now disregard the the type of the indices passed to a GEP, so
"load GEP %A, i32 1" and "load GEP %A, i64 1" will result in a single argument,
not two.

This fixes PR2598, for which a testcase has been added as well.

b1e8cad61e Add x86 isel patterns to match what would be a ZERO_EXTEND_INREG operation,
which is represented in codegen as an 'and' operation. This matches them
with movz instructions, instead of leaving them to be matched by and
instructions with an immediate field.

ecf4fa2744 Test this differently: I saw this test fail
because opt exited while llvm-as was still
writing to the pipe, causing it to get a
SIGPIPE.  It seems best to change things to
avoid the race altogether.
