c09e411102 llvm-mc: A few more parsing / match tweaks. 
- Operands which are just a label should be parsed as immediates, not memory
   operands (from the assembler perspective).

 - Match a few more flavors of immediates.

 - Distinguish match functions for memory operands which don't take a segment
   register.

 - We match the .s for "hello world" now!

7a01e95915 PreferredEHDataFormat is always call with data and global, but this whole 
thing is #if0'd out anyway.  Just simplify the code by reducing the interface.
Not deleting this is essential for Bill's continuing happiness.

26630c1180 move emitUsedDirectiveFor to TargetLoweringObjectFile and rename it to 
indicate that it is a predicate, not an emitter.  This eliminates TAI
dependencies on Mangler and GlobalValue.

1db511cc91 remove the PPCLinuxTargetAsmInfo implementation of PreferredEHDataFormat, 
because it just calls the default impl.

Remove the PPCDarwinTargetAsmInfo version of PreferredEHDataFormat because
it just returns DW_EH_PE_absptr unless on 10.6.  However, 10.6 doesn't support
PPC, so the default impl is just fine.

ff6ab17619 Until we have a "ALIGN" pseudo instruction, have asm printer emitted a .align 
to ensure the instruction that follows a TBB (when the number of table entries
is odd) is 2-byte aligned.

ad2afc2a42 Reapply r77654 with a fix: MachineFunctionPass's getAnalysisUsage 
shouldn't do AU.setPreservesCFG(), because even though CodeGen passes
don't modify the LLVM IR CFG, they may modify the MachineFunction CFG,
and passes like MachineLoop are registered with isCFGOnly set to true.

82987bfe9b fix PR4650: we only track sizes for certain objects, so only put something 
into the mergable section if it is one of our special cases.  This could
obviously be improved, but this is the minimal fix and restores us to the
previous behavior.

a027d222e1 llvm-mc: Match a few X86 instructions. 
- This is "experimental" code, I am feeling my way around and working out the
   best way to do things (and learning tblgen in the process). Comments welcome,
   but keep in mind this stuff will change radically.

 - This is enough to match "subb" and friends, but not much else. The next step is to
   automatically generate the matchers for individual operands.

37b7387da9 Optimize some common usage patterns of atomic built-ins __sync_add_and_fetch() and __sync_sub_and_fetch. 
When the return value is not used (i.e. only care about the value in the memory), x86 does not have to use add to implement these. Instead, it can use add, sub, inc, dec instructions with the "lock" prefix.

This is currently implemented using a bit of instruction selection trick. The issue is the target independent pattern produces one output and a chain and we want to map it into one that just output a chain. The current trick is to select it into a merge_values with the first definition being an implicit_def. The proper solution is to add new ISD opcodes for the no-output variant. DAG combiner can then transform the node before it gets to target node selection.

Problem #2 is we are adding a whole bunch of x86 atomic instructions when in fact these instructions are identical to the non-lock versions. We need a way to add target specific information to target nodes and have this information carried over to machine instructions. Asm printer (or JIT) can use this information to add the "lock" prefix.

7f93dc8345 Switch obvious clients to Twine instead of utostr (when they were already using 
a Twine, e.g., for names).
 - I am a little ambivalent about this; we don't want the string conversion of
   utostr, but using overload '+' mixed with string and integer arguments is
   sketchy. On the other hand, this particular usage is something of an idiom.

cb778a8634 1. Introduce a new TargetOperandInfo::getRegClass() helper method 
and convert code to using it, instead of having lots of things
   poke the isLookupPtrRegClass() method directly.

2. Make PointerLikeRegClass contain a 'kind' int, and store it in
   the existing regclass field of TargetOperandInfo when the
   isLookupPtrRegClass() predicate is set.  Make getRegClass pass
   this into TargetRegisterInfo::getPointerRegClass(), allowing
   targets to have multiple ptr_rc things.

067fe1ae54 remove some completely wrong code. 1 is never < 16. It turns out that GCC appears to put strings of any length into the ELF cstring equivalent, so just rip out the code.

4bb253c60f the apple "ld_classic" linker doesn't support .literal16 in 32-bit 
mode, and "ld64" (the default linker) falls back to it in -static
mode.

6495f63945 - More refactoring. This gets rid of all of the getOpcode calls. 
- This change also makes it possible to switch between ARM / Thumb on a
  per-function basis.
- Fixed thumb2 routine which expand reg + arbitrary immediate. It was using
  using ARM so_imm logic.
- Use movw and movt to do reg + imm when profitable.
- Other code clean ups and minor optimizations.

f0144127b9 Rip all of the global variable lowering logic out of TargetAsmInfo. Since 
it is highly specific to the object file that will be generated in the end,
this introduces a new TargetLoweringObjectFile interface that is implemented
for each of ELF/MachO/COFF/Alpha/PIC16 and XCore.

Though still is still a brutal and ugly refactoring, this is a major step
towards goodness.

This patch also:
1. fixes a bunch of dangling pointer problems in the PIC16 backend.
2. disables the TargetLowering copy ctor which PIC16 was accidentally using.
3. gets us closer to xcore having its own crazy target section flags and
   pic16 not having to shadow sections with its own objects.
4. fixes wierdness where ELF targets would set CStringSection but not
   CStringSection_.  Factor the code better.
5. fixes some bugs in string lowering on ELF targets.

bf36cafb8c fixed incorrect lowering of ISD::SUB node. SUB has only one result value. 
It wasn't caught during tests because we never got a sub generated, (i8 was always getting promoted to int, which in turn was broken into subc/sube). Though the optimizer leaves an i8 sub now.

0fcf4dc6d3 untangle a TargetAsmInfo hack where ELFTargetAsmInfo would create a 
'unnamed' bss section, but some impls would want a named one.  Since
they don't have consistent behavior, just make each target do their
own thing, instead of doing something "sortof common" then having
targets change immutable objects later.

e346e180f3 Rearrange all the SectionKinds and structure them into a hierarchical 
group instead of a bunch of random unrelated ideas.  Provide predicates
to categorize a SectionKind into a group, and use them instead of 
getKind() throughout the code.

This also renames a ton of SectionKinds to be more consistent and
evocative, and adds a huge number of comments on the enums so that
I will hopefully be able to remember how this stuff works long from
now.

a5881e3060 Add TargetRegistry::lookupTarget. 
- This is a simplified mechanism which just looks up a target based on the
   target triple, with a few additional flags.

 - Remove getClosestStaticTargetForModule, the moral equivalent is now:
     lookupTarget(Mod->getTargetTriple, true, false, ...);

 - This no longer does the fuzzy matching with target data (based on endianness
   and pointer width) that getClosestStaticTargetForModule was doing, but this
   was deemed unnecessary.

30c4a3b9a8 finish simplifying DarwinTargetAsmInfo::SelectSectionForGlobal

e3577da6d9 simplify DarwinTargetAsmInfo::SelectSectionForGlobal a bit 
and make it more aggressive, we now put:

const int G2 __attribute__((weak)) = 42;

into the text (readonly) segment like gcc, previously we put
it into the data (readwrite) segment.

b4fc419d83 this is (unfortunately) several changes mixed together: 
1. Spell SectionFlags::Writeable as "Writable".
2. Add predicates for deriving SectionFlags from SectionKinds.
3. Sink ELF-specific getSectionPrefixForUniqueGlobal impl into
   ELFTargetAsmInfo.
4. Fix SectionFlagsForGlobal to know that BSS/ThreadBSS has the
   BSS bit set (the real fix for PR4619).
5. Fix isSuitableForBSS to not put globals with explicit sections
   set in BSS (which was the reason #4 wasn't fixed earlier).
6. Remove my previous hack for PR4619.

d6fd377f33 Simplify JIT target selection. 
- Instead of requiring targets to define a JIT quality match function, we just
   have them specify if they support a JIT.

 - Target selection for the JIT just gets the host triple and looks for the best
   target which matches the triple and has a JIT.

66ac53165e Change Thumb2 jumptable codegen to one that uses two level jumps: 
Before:
      adr r12, #LJTI3_0_0
      ldr pc, [r12, +r0, lsl #2]

      .long    LBB3_32

After:
      adr r12, #LJTI3_0_0

      b.w    LBB3_32

This has several advantages.
1. This will make it easier to optimize this to a TBB / TBH instruction +
   (smaller) table.
2. This eliminate the need for ugly asm printer hack to force the address
   into thumb addresses (bit 0 is one).
3. Same codegen for pic and non-pic.
4. This eliminate the need to align the table so constantpool island pass
   won't have to over-estimate the size.

Based on my calculation, the later is probably slightly faster as well since
ldr pc with shifter address is very slow. That is, it should be a win as long
as the HW implementation can do a reasonable job of branch predict the second
branch.

ce63ffb52f More migration to raw_ostream, the water has dried up around the iostream hole. 
- Some clients which used DOUT have moved to DEBUG. We are deprecating the
   "magic" DOUT behavior which avoided calling printing functions when the
   statement was disabled. In addition to being unnecessary magic, it had the
   downside of leaving code in -Asserts builds, and of hiding potentially
   unnecessary computations.

b303504a56 make SectionKindForGlobal target independent, and therefore non-virtual. 
It's classifications now include elf-specific discriminators.  Targets
that don't have these features (like darwin and pecoff) simply treat
data.rel like data, etc.

55acc6807f Replace UniqueSectionForGlobal with getSectionPrefixForUniqueGlobal. 
The later doesn't depend on any crazy LLVM IR stuff, and this
pulls the concatenation of prefix with GV name (the root problem behind

daf2212e83 Revert r75581: it causes massive breakage in the Ada 
testsuite, due to exception handling not working
correctly.  Maybe because the libgcc unwinder is
miscompiled - not sure, and I won't have time to
look into it before leaving on holiday.  Note that
miscompilations of libgcc are not picked up by the
nightly testers, because they dynamically link with
libgcc, so pick up the system version rather than
the version built as part of llvm-gcc.  This is a
nasty flaw in the nightly testers.  (On the other
hand the Ada testsuite links with the just built
libgcc).

81c102ba66 Since we have moved unified assembly, switch to ADR instruction instead of a the difficult-to-read .set + add syntax to materialize pc-relative address. 
Turns out this also fixed a poor code selection on Thumb1. I have no idea why we were using a mov + add to do the same thing as ADR before.

298414ec18 remove the SelectSectionForMachineConst hook, replacing it with 
a new getSectionForMergableConstant hook.  This removes one dependence
of TAI on Type, and provides the hook with enough info to make the 
right decision based on whether the global has relocations etc.

fc6ad402fb Let each target determines whether a machine instruction is dead. If true, that allows late codeine passes to delete it. 
This is considered a workaround. The problem is some targets are not modeling side effects correctly. PPC is apparently one of those. This patch allows ppc llvm-gcc to bootstrap on Darwin. Once we find out which instruction definitions are wrong, we can remove the PPCInstrInfo workaround.

7cf12c7efd reimplement Constant::ContainsRelocations as 
Constant::getRelocationInfo(), which has a much simpler
to use API.  It still should not be part of libvmcore, but
is better than it was.  Also teach it to be smart about 
hidden visibility.

cb45963643 add an API so target-independent codegen can determine if a constant 
pool entry will require relocations against it.  I implemented this
conservatively for ARM, someone who is knowledgable about it should
see if this can be improved.

117c7e2a6a remove the last bits of SectionFlagsForGlobal. There is some flag here that 
depends on XS1A, but I think the ReadOnlySection is already set up for this
and there is no testcase that this breaks.  If this is really needed, we can
add the appropriate parameterization to TargetAsmInfo in the future to support
this.

e1abeb478a Remove the XCore custom implementation of MergeableConstSection, relying on 
the generic ELF version instead.  This will result in its mergable constant
sections getting named ".rodata.cst4" instead of ".cp.const4", but the
linker looks at the section flags, not the name of the section AFAICT.

b3e7171926 Remove shift amount flavor. It isn't actually complete enough to 
be useful, and it's currently unused.  (Some issues: it isn't actually 
rich enough to capture the semantics on many architectures, and

3d10a5a757 Add plumbing for the `linker_private' linkage type. This type is meant for 
"private" symbols which the assember shouldn't strip, but which the linker may
remove after evaluation. This is mostly useful for Objective-C metadata.

This is plumbing, so we don't have a use of it yet. More to come, etc.

a786c7b90c Don't override LowerArguments in the SPARC backend. In addition to 
being more consistent with other backends, this makes the SPARC backend 
deal with functions with arguments with illegal types correctly, which 
fixes some tests in test/CodeGen/Generic.

796492dc4b Switch Alpha over to the new call lowering style. New code mostly 
copied from the SystemZ target.  I don't think this causes any 
significant changes to the output (I compared the assembly, and the 
results appeared to be essentially unchanged), although I don't actually 
have an Alpha to test on.

I would appreciate if anyone with the appropriate hardware could test 
this. I'm not sure if that includes anyone subscribed to llvm-commits, 
though.

47e9fab158 Fix x86 inline ams 'q' constraint support. In 32-bit mode, it's just like 'Q', i.e. EAX, EDX, ECX, EBX. In 64-bit mode, it just means all the i64r registers. Yeah, that makes sense.

e2cf37b88c Untangle a snarl that I discovered when updating the mangler, 
starting in getCurrentFunctionEHName.  Among other problems,
we would try to privative a "foo.eh" label, but end up emitting
the label as _Lfoo.eh instead of L_foo.eh on darwin.  This is really
bad, and the linker has always tolerated these labels existing.
For now, just emit them as _foo.eh.

This patch also fixes problems with ".eh" labels on unnamed
functions and eliminates two strangely defined TargetAsmInfo
hooks.

75402822d6 r76102 added the MachineCodeEmitter::processDebugLoc call and called it from 
the X86 Emitter.  This patch extends that to the rest of the targets that can
write to a MachineCodeEmitter: ARM, Alpha, and PPC.

32360a7e21 Add line numbers to OProfile. To do this, I added a processDebugLoc() 
call to the MachineCodeEmitter interface and made copying the start
line of a function not conditional on whether we're emitting Dwarf
debug information. I'll propagate the processDebugLoc() calls to the
non-X86 targets in a followup patch.

In the long run, it'll probably be better to gather this information
through the DwarfWriter, but the DwarfWriter currently depends on the
AsmPrinter and TargetAsmInfo, and fixing that would be out of the way
for this patch.

There's a bug in OProfile 0.9.4 that makes it ignore line numbers for
addresses above 4G, and a patch fixing it at
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.oprofile/7634
