50340f666b "fix" PR4612, which is a crash on: 
%0 = malloc [3758096384 x i32]

The "malloc" instruction doesn't support 64-bits correctly (see PR715),
and should be removed.  Victor is actively working on fixing this, in 
the meantime just don't crash.

daf2212e83 Revert r75581: it causes massive breakage in the Ada 
testsuite, due to exception handling not working
correctly.  Maybe because the libgcc unwinder is
miscompiled - not sure, and I won't have time to
look into it before leaving on holiday.  Note that
miscompilations of libgcc are not picked up by the
nightly testers, because they dynamically link with
libgcc, so pick up the system version rather than
the version built as part of llvm-gcc.  This is a
nasty flaw in the nightly testers.  (On the other
hand the Ada testsuite links with the just built
libgcc).

81c102ba66 Since we have moved unified assembly, switch to ADR instruction instead of a the difficult-to-read .set + add syntax to materialize pc-relative address. 
Turns out this also fixed a poor code selection on Thumb1. I have no idea why we were using a mov + add to do the same thing as ADR before.

6316fbcb04 Convert StringMap to using StringRef for its APIs. 
- Yay for '-'s and simplifications!

 - I kept StringMap::GetOrCreateValue for compatibility purposes, this can
   eventually go away. Likewise the StringMapEntry Create functions still follow
   the old style.

 - NIFC.

b53cc014d0 Fix frame index elimination to correctly handle thumb-2 addressing modes that don't allow negative offsets. During frame elimination convert *i12 opcode to a *i8 when necessary due to a negative offset.

b4c28e97f4 Cache dependence computation using FoldingSet. 
This introduces an LDA-internal DependencePair class. The intention is,
that this is a place where dependence testers can store various results
such as SCEVs describing conflicting iterations, breaking conditions,
distance/direction vectors, etc.

f98d253bc5 Make some existing optimizations that would only trigger on scalars 
also apply to vectors.  This allows us to compile this:

#include <emmintrin.h>
__m128i a(__m128 a, __m128 b) { return a==a & b==b; }
__m128i b(__m128 a, __m128 b) { return a!=a | b!=b; }

to:

_a:
	cmpordps	%xmm1, %xmm0
	ret
_b:

with clang instead of to a ton of horrible code.

81ce3ed08c Make the JIT code emitter properly retry and ask for more memory when it runs 
out of memory, and also make the default memory manager allocate more memory
when it runs out.

Also, switch function stubs and global data over to using the BumpPtrAllocator.

This makes it so the JIT no longer mmaps (or the equivalent on Windows) 16 MB
of memory, and instead allocates in 512K slabs.  I suspect this size could go
lower, especially on embedded platforms, now that more slabs can be allocated.

95eb3ad353 Parameterize the BumpPtrAllocator over a slab allocator. It defaults to using 
malloc, so there should be no functional changes to other code.

These changes are necessary since I have plans to use this allocator in the JIT
memory manager, and it needs a special allocator.

I also added some tests which helped me pinpoint some bugs.

6dae757a07 Don't give a massive inlining cost bonus to available_externally 
functions with a single use; eliminating the single use may eliminate 
the function from the current module, but usually doesn't eliminate 
it from the final program.

298414ec18 remove the SelectSectionForMachineConst hook, replacing it with 
a new getSectionForMergableConstant hook.  This removes one dependence
of TAI on Type, and provides the hook with enough info to make the 
right decision based on whether the global has relocations etc.

fc6ad402fb Let each target determines whether a machine instruction is dead. If true, that allows late codeine passes to delete it. 
This is considered a workaround. The problem is some targets are not modeling side effects correctly. PPC is apparently one of those. This patch allows ppc llvm-gcc to bootstrap on Darwin. Once we find out which instruction definitions are wrong, we can remove the PPCInstrInfo workaround.

7cf12c7efd reimplement Constant::ContainsRelocations as 
Constant::getRelocationInfo(), which has a much simpler
to use API.  It still should not be part of libvmcore, but
is better than it was.  Also teach it to be smart about 
hidden visibility.

80607c9b2b Add some support for iterative coalescers to calculate a joined live 
range's weight properly.  This is turned off right now in the sense that
you'll get an assert if you get into a situation that can only be caused
by an iterative coalescer.  All other code paths operate exactly as
before so there is no functional change with this patch.  The asserts
should be disabled if/when an iterative coalescer gets added to trunk.

cb45963643 add an API so target-independent codegen can determine if a constant 
pool entry will require relocations against it.  I implemented this
conservatively for ARM, someone who is knowledgable about it should
see if this can be improved.

82a70ccb24 Change ELFCodeEmitter logic to emit the constant pool and jump tables to 
their appropriate sections before the code itself. They need to be emitted
before the function because on some targets (x86 but not x86_64) the later

0f4b285a5b Replace the original ad-hoc code for determining whether (v pred w) implies 
(x pred y) with more thorough code that does more complete canonicalization
before resorting to range checks. This helps it find more cases where
the canonicalized expressions match.

117c7e2a6a remove the last bits of SectionFlagsForGlobal. There is some flag here that 
depends on XS1A, but I think the ReadOnlySection is already set up for this
and there is no testcase that this breaks.  If this is really needed, we can
add the appropriate parameterization to TargetAsmInfo in the future to support
this.

e1abeb478a Remove the XCore custom implementation of MergeableConstSection, relying on 
the generic ELF version instead.  This will result in its mergable constant
sections getting named ".rodata.cst4" instead of ".cp.const4", but the
linker looks at the section flags, not the name of the section AFAICT.

b3e7171926 Remove shift amount flavor. It isn't actually complete enough to 
be useful, and it's currently unused.  (Some issues: it isn't actually

5d885023fe Another rewriter bug exposed by recent coalescer changes. ReuseInfo::GetRegForReload() should make sure the "switched" register is in the desired register class. I'm surprised this hasn't caused more failures in the past.

5026ae4514 Removed the DumpSymbolsandMacros and LoadSymbolsandMacros MCStreamer API as 
the parsing of the .dump and .load should be done in the assembly parser and
not have any need for an MCStreamer API.  Changed the code for now so these
just produce an error saying these specific directives are not yet implemented
since they are likely no longer used and may never need to be implemented.

f241174421 Revert the addition of hasNoPointerOverflow to GEPOperator. 
Getelementptrs that are defined to wrap are virtually useless to
optimization, and getelementptrs that are undefined on any kind
of overflow are too restrictive -- it's difficult to ensure that
all intermediate addresses are within bounds. I'm going to take
a different approach.

Remove a few optimizations that depended on this flag.

3d10a5a757 Add plumbing for the `linker_private' linkage type. This type is meant for 
"private" symbols which the assember shouldn't strip, but which the linker may
remove after evaluation. This is mostly useful for Objective-C metadata.

This is plumbing, so we don't have a use of it yet. More to come, etc.

a786c7b90c Don't override LowerArguments in the SPARC backend. In addition to 
being more consistent with other backends, this makes the SPARC backend 
deal with functions with arguments with illegal types correctly, which 
fixes some tests in test/CodeGen/Generic.

796492dc4b Switch Alpha over to the new call lowering style. New code mostly 
copied from the SystemZ target.  I don't think this causes any 
significant changes to the output (I compared the assembly, and the 
results appeared to be essentially unchanged), although I don't actually 
have an Alpha to test on.

I would appreciate if anyone with the appropriate hardware could test 
this. I'm not sure if that includes anyone subscribed to llvm-commits, 
though.

3a4a884c16 Replace intersectWith with maximalIntersectWith. The latter guarantees that 
all values belonging to the intersection will belong to the resulting range.
The former was inconsistent about that point (either way is fine, just pick

ca178908c8 Add a new Operator class, for handling Instructions and ConstantExprs 
in a convenient manner, factoring out some common code from
InstructionCombining and ValueTracking. Move the contents of
BinaryOperators.h into Operator.h and use Operator to generalize them

e2cf37b88c Untangle a snarl that I discovered when updating the mangler, 
starting in getCurrentFunctionEHName.  Among other problems,
we would try to privative a "foo.eh" label, but end up emitting
the label as _Lfoo.eh instead of L_foo.eh on darwin.  This is really
bad, and the linker has always tolerated these labels existing.
For now, just emit them as _foo.eh.

This patch also fixes problems with ".eh" labels on unnamed
functions and eliminates two strangely defined TargetAsmInfo
hooks.

0b79a7727d Replace isTrapping with a new, similar method called 
isSafeToSpeculativelyExecute. The new method is a bit closer to what 
the callers actually care about in that it rejects more things callers 
don't want.  It also adds more precise handling for integer 
division, and unifies code for analyzing the legality of a speculative 
load.

32360a7e21 Add line numbers to OProfile. To do this, I added a processDebugLoc() 
call to the MachineCodeEmitter interface and made copying the start
line of a function not conditional on whether we're emitting Dwarf
debug information. I'll propagate the processDebugLoc() calls to the
non-X86 targets in a followup patch.

In the long run, it'll probably be better to gather this information
through the DwarfWriter, but the DwarfWriter currently depends on the
AsmPrinter and TargetAsmInfo, and fixing that would be out of the way
for this patch.

There's a bug in OProfile 0.9.4 that makes it ignore line numbers for
addresses above 4G, and a patch fixing it at
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.oprofile/7634

57e599a46b Teach MachineInstr::isRegTiedToDefOperand() to correctly parse inline asm operands. 
The inline asm operands must be parsed from the first flag, you cannot assume
that an immediate operand preceeding a register use operand is the flag.
PowerPC "m" operands are represented as (flag, imm, reg) triples.
isRegTiedToDefOperand() would incorrectly interpret the imm as the flag.

ccb7e96ef0 Expand unaligned 32 bit loads from an address which is a constant 
offset from a 32 bit aligned base as follows:

  ldw low, base[offset >> 2]
  ldw high, base[(offset >> 2) + 1]
  shr low_shifted, low, (offset & 0x3) * 8
  shl high_shifted, high, 32 - (offset & 0x3) * 8
  or result, low_shifted, high_shifted

Expand 32 bit loads / stores with 16 bit alignment into two 16 bit
loads / stores.

6ef40b11f8 use SUBREG_TO_REG instead of INSERT_SUBREG, this way the code 
generator can know the top bits are zero, not undefined.

f7d3e696a5 Verify that there is no kill flag on tied operands on two-address instructions. 
This extra check is not trigged when runnning "make check" on top-of-tree.

Change error message to better match llvm_unreachable() grammar.

e87b2abe91 Change raw_ostream so that it doesn't call llvm_report_error 
immediately on every output error. Instead, add a flag to
raw_ostream, and set the flag whenever an error is detected.

The flag can be queried and cleared from the public API. This
gives applications more flexibility to handling errors in
application-specific ways.

If the flag is not cleared when the raw_ostream is destructed,
llvm_report_error is called from the destructor. This ensures
that errors are not implicitly silenced, and provides
convenient default behavior for tools like llc and opt.
Clients wishing to avoid llvm_report_error calls from
raw_ostream should check for errors and clear the error flag.

72fbc3d9d2 Fix bug in RegScavenger::scavengeRegister(). 
Reserved registers are not candidates for scavenging, and they were removed
from the candidate list like this:

CreateRegClassMask(RC, Candidates);
Candidates ^= ReservedRegs;

However, when there are reserved registers outside RC, this causes invalid
bits to be set in Candidates.

a1bdcedc38 Add a Force option to raw_fd_ostream to specify whether opening 
an existing file is considered an error. Convert several tools

9f79d3ea50 Use 0664 instead of 0644 for the default open mode. This is

54785e6df0 Migrate llc and the JIT to using the TargetRegistry for lookups. 
- They still use the TargetMachineRegistry to populate the contents of the
   -march option (via the listener interface). We can't just populate it in the
   option parser because we can't expect the TargetRegistry to be populated yet
   (we no longer rely on static constructors).

 - There are a couple ways to finish killing off TargetMachineRegistry, but I
   haven't figured out the cleanest one yet...

e0bda7df1a Reimplement TargetMachineRegistry in terms of TargetRegistry. 
- This is a temporary hack to aid in incremental refactoring, for now we

bb06129140 Add new TargetRegistry. 
Targets implement a single global Target structure which will live in a new
<Target>/TargetInfo library; this will be present in any image which the target
is usable in.
 - Optional target specific classes can then be registered and attached to the
   Target description.

 - Registration for normal Targets will be done via the initialization functions
   instead of using static constructors.

 - This allows clients to use a single interface to obtain target data, without
   requiring the code generator be linked in. It also provides a natural
   extension point for adding new optional target data (assembler parser,
   disassembler, etc.).

 - This also provides a new entry point for obtaining a target for a particular
   triple (without a module).

 - Not yet used, however this should eventually replace the TargetMachineRegistry.

0196dc5733 Fix the expansion of umax and smax in the case where one or more of 
the operands have pointer type, so that the resulting type matches
the original SCEV type, and so that unnecessary ptrtoints are
avoided in common cases.

9ac7542bab reapply r75408, which eliminates MOV64r0 in favor of using 
MOV32r0 + subregs to do the same thing.  This should work now
that PR4544 is fixed.  Thanks Evan!

969f28dfb6 Introduce a pointertracking pass. 
For now this only computes the allocated size of the memory pointed to by a
pointer, and offset a pointer from allocated pointer.
The actual checkLimits part will come later, after another round of review.

b8158acc23 Reapply my previous asmprinter changes now with more testing and two 
additional bug fixes:

1. The bug that everyone hit was a problem in the asmprinter where it
   would remove $stub but keep the L prefix on a name when emitting the
   indirect symbol.  This is easy to fix by keeping the name of the stub
   and the name of the symbol in a StringMap instead of just keeping a
   StringSet and trying to reconstruct it late.

2. There was a problem printing the personality function.  The current
   logic to print out the personality function from the DWARF information
   is a bit of a cesspool right now that duplicates a bunch of other 
   logic in the asm printer.  The short version of it is that it depends
   on emitting both the L and _ prefix for symbols (at least on darwin)
   and until I can untangle it, it is best to switch the mangler back to
   emitting both prefixes.

c23197a26f llvm_unreachable->llvm_unreachable(0), LLVM_UNREACHABLE->llvm_unreachable. 
This adds location info for all llvm_unreachable calls (which is a macro now) in
!NDEBUG builds.
In NDEBUG builds location info and the message is off (it only prints
"UREACHABLE executed").

1b65253da6 Require IVUsers after LCSSA, since LCSSA does not preserve IVUsers. 
This results in the pass manager running IVUsers only once for

93990d775e After converting assert(0) to LLVM_UNREACHABLE we lost file/line location. 
Fix by making the LLVM_UNREACHABLE pass __FILE__ and __LINE__ to
llvm_unreachable.
